Waterproofing your covers

Everyone's going to tell you to use 303 at 90 bucks a gallon. I used Starbrite waterproofer for about 40 bucks a gallon. Mine beads up water just fine. I know a lot of people that go to Home Depot and use Thompson's water seal too. it seems to work fine as well........

I've used aquatite with okay results, going to try the 303 this year. I beleive the 303 is actually recommended by Sunbrella, and I'm sure most on here will recommend the 303.

There's nothing wrong with 303, but it's expensive, and I've not noticed that it holds up any better than anything else.

Tried the starbright... works well for a week or too... sun breaks it down
Aquatite... worked ok but would not let me wash the bird do off.. it seemed to hold stains to the fabric.

This year am trying 303 High Tech Fabric Guard. $85 price matched out the door at west marine.
Will report back when I have my findings on this one... it is what is suggested by sunbrella...

My Starbrite is still good this spring, that's a full year for me, but I'm in a covered slip, so I'm sure that helps.

Who makes the 303? Do they make anything smaller than a gallon?

Just curious why anyone would need to buy it by the gallon...don't we all just spray it on or do you actually soak it in the 303? In reading the label on the bottle it says it will cover a certain square foot amount of canvas and most of us don't come close to the square foot coverage that one of the spray bottles will cover?!? Just making sure I apply it correctly.

I buy it by the Gallon because it is cheaper in the long run... I use a pump up garden sprayer to apply it... Just a light even misting...

I leave it on because that's the easiest way to keep it spread out so you can get to all of it.

I clean my canvas thoroughly (scrub it, use the spray cleaner, etc), let it air dry and then completely saturate it with 303 spray. One bottle does both my bimini tops. I dont bother with the side pieces. This system seems to work every year for me.
