water system woes

I need some help diagnosing a water system problem. When I “power up†the water system at the dash, everything works like it’s supposed to, except that I get some leakage from around the hose hookup in the transom locker. I’ve disassembled as much as I can, and stood on my head in the bilge, but I can’t see where it’s leaking. I just lived with it last season. Friday when we were flushing out the antifreeze from the system, it was leaking again, UNTIL I heard a distinct click, and it stopped. We continued with the flushing then shut the system off. No leak. When I powered it up again, the leak was back! This got me to thinking – is there a check valve back there someplace that might not be reseating, causing the leak? It would seem to me that there would have to be one to accommodate using the city water connection to pressurize the system when at the dock, yet still seal the system up to build pressure when using the on board pump. So the questions are, 1.)is there a check valve and 2.)where the heck is it?

Thanks,

Bill

The city inlet has a pressure regulator in it. It could be leaking from this. They also fail when you least expect them, which is why you should never leave a water hose connected when leaving the boat.

Wait till all is dry and then you can check with a piece of toilet paper if you still cannot see but can reach/feel the fittings.

When witnerizing the fresh water system, did you "pump" a little pink in through the city water hookup? That is the only way to get antifreeze in the regulator and the short piece of line before it Tees into the system. If not, the regulator could be your problem.

It's listed on page 44 (46 of the PDF) as item 141168 as part of the Preferred Option Group with Canvas (Parts manual for the 2000 260 Sundancer).

If you need to replace it, most boat stores carry these in stock. In case you want to compare pricing/availability with the same part from SR.

For example, West Marine has it in plastic from Jabsco for $35 and in metal from Shurflo for $41.
