Has anyone replaced their water pump impellers on Mercruiser 8.1L V-8's? Is it difficult or should I have the dealer perform the service. They want $350.00 per engine to replace.

That seems very high. I watched my guy do it in under an hour. Unless they charge $350 an hour, this doesn't seem right...

the book says 2 hours for each impeller.

I do all impellers every three seasons so theyw ere up again this year. I have my SR shop do it. They charge $256 per side including the impeller kit which is $35. It is a bit of a job since the pumps sit just inside the stringers and are difficult to get to. The mechanic takes the entire pumps off and rebuilds them. To do that on the old 340 they have to unbolt the main lift mufflers and move them aft. So it's a bit involved.
