My 1993 370 DA has 3 sports in the headliner on both side of the front berth. Tried everything to determine where they are coming from to no avail. They are right a the turn up to the deck at the level of the rial mounting. I removed rail and do not see any leaks??? Anyone else seen this??

JOhn:huh:

Just a guess - but your rail stantions (where they mount to the deck) may need to be resealed. Check to see if any screws are loose/missing and reseat using marine grade silicone in the screw holes to seal. You might have to try a garden hose on the deck (with someone in the cabin watching for leaks) to find the location/culprit. Good Luck. - Jeff

I had this problem with my 93 while it was under warranty. It was a struggle for the 10+ years I owned the boat. The dealer sealed and re-sealed everything multiple times. In the end I replaced the headliner following another expensive repair of caulking and sold the boat. My personal opinion is that model had a lot of flex in the hull and running in big water degraded the seal with time. Weak hull joint and poor design in my opinion. Not what you want to hear, but I spent lots of money trying to fix it it and never solved the problem.

BDDan Yes usually it is the stantions . Rebed with marine 5200 and stop all dock hands from handling the yacht by the rails that's what the lines are for.

Use 4200 not 5200. Big mistake to use 5200.

This problem on my boat was caused by bad caulking on the deck hatches. The water leaks in and then filters down the foam inside the headliner and comes out the sides. When I took the deck hatches off I discovered that SeaRay had only used a small amount of caulk to seal them to the deck, they were very easy to remove. Use 4200 to reasel. Never use 5200 for anything.

I am re-sealing my rails now--Using Boat Life--And the thing I noticed was that the Main Railing is fastened to the deck with NUTS and BOLTS (Bolts on the inside).

The bolts are sandwiched between the head liner and the bottom of the deck.

How have you guys and gals handled this?

I am hesitant to remove the head liner as there are no sags at all but will if that is how y'all do it.

Lastly, I want to re-seal the cleats as well but cannot tell if those ore bolted or screwed.

Is it advisable to pull back the headliner to re-seal or am I missing something and this can be done more easily?

Please advise.

If I can recall, your headliner is made out of a carpet type material similar to my 1989 250. My boat yard suggested cutting an X in the headliner to access the bolts. You can then make your repair and glue the headliner back in place. Try an automotive glue from a body shop or boat yard. They should be able to help you get the correct glue.

As a temporary measure, you may want to silicone around the base of the stantion you think it the problem. This is only a temporary fix but it will allow you to figure out which one needs the attention. My guess, if they've never been rebed, they all likely leaking to some degree.

Last, you try running a moisture meter around each stantion and this will give you an indication which are leaking and go from there but I've had limited success with this but in my case, I knew they were all leaking.
