Water intake

I just picked up a 1984 Searay 225 with 454. The outdrive is a Mercruiser. I had a look at the lower unit for the water intake so that I could fire it up and check it out but I cannot find the openning? Can anyone help?

Water intakes "suck"


Maybe yours is not set up to draw water in through the lower unit. Maybe it's a thru hull. Investigate further, I'm sure you will find something.

Check the type of drive. Most of the BBC's from 78 to 84 came with a TRS and a Trans.

It will have a bronze through hull.

There no holes or slots on the sides of the outdrive below the anti-cavitation plate?

Looked underneath and found the through hull pick up between the trailer rollers. Thanks for all the help.

Glad to hear you found it. Be careful if you do beach the boat from time to time. You might end up getting dirt in the engine instead of water.
