water in ski locker

Doesn't my ski locker (in the floor) drain through the bilge? I've got water in there, and when I take the plug out, it won't drain back through the bilge. So I figure I've got a clogged pipe, or my bilge pump isn't working. My pump makes a quiet whine... is that the noise I should be hearing? There is no water under the engine. Any ideas?

Mike,

Even when you have it on a slope it is not draining. We sometimes get water in our ski locker from all of the people getting in an off the tube and when I pull it out I let it sit on a sloped driveway prior to pulling home and all of the water disappears. Same thing happens when washing prior to putting back in garage.

There was a time where there was something stuck in the plug between the locker and the bilge and I stuck a clothes hanger in it and it came right out.

Good luck with it.

Also make sure it's not pluged up by something like a leave or something. You would be amazed what kind of stuff gets down there.

Exactly.

The bilge pump is in the bilge so it won't pump anything from other lockers etc. If you have an anchor locker in the bow it also should drain into the forward locker and all the way back to the bilge so there could be trash from it, mud etc. that plugged the drain hole between one locker and another.

i wash out my ski locker all the time.. or as i call it the place where i store the anchors.. lol actually my drain is about a qharter of in inch up from the floor so i allways have a little puddle by the drain..

I wash out my ski locker all the time because i keep my achors in there and i like to wash all the salt off the ropes and stuff.

but in my last boat i had the drains on deck not letting the water out it would build up by the seats.. there was a piece of foam that had bent back and blocked it.. just push a hanger through it and watch what comes out the other side on the bildge.

Just be happy you don't have my problem... have some shells that came up w/ the anchor and got washed back into the drain hole between the locker and the engine bilge. No way to get them out. I'm going to try a plumbing snake, but so far it has been a hanger and jamming them around to create enough of a path for water that I can get the buildup out. Awesome.

Slapped my buddy for throwing a muddy/shelled up anchor into the anchor locker as well (drains all the way back in a 240SD) poor design.

thats why i NEVER put the anchor back in without cleaning it fully before bringing it back into the boat.. good luck,,, try using a ELECTRICIANS snake... its for snaking wires.. its thinner and more compact..
