Water in my horn?

My horn was working fine the other day. Today I pressed the button and it made the weakest excuse for a horn noise ever and then stopped completely shortly after. I checked power to the horn which is good. Pulled the horn and it sounds like water is in there and a little bit even poured out.

Is it likely to return back to working condition once it dries out or should i start looking for a new one? It's a Signaltone A-23 if this helps at all. Thanks fellow Sea Rayers!

Mine was ruined once the protector disintegrated. I'd say especially if you boat in salt water that it's ruined.

Sea Ray doesn't exactly mount the horns in the ideal spot on the SD 220. In direct sun all the time. Gore Tex doesn't have a chance of making it over 2 seasons. It would last longer if it were protected by the Sunbrella when the boat was covered.

That horn makes a very nice funnel jbone36

So true! Mine sounds like a wounded duck. My kids think it is the funniest thing!:smt043:lol:
But you dont have to be a boat designer to figure out that was a bad place to put it! I will be in the market for one soon!:smt024

My recommendation on the SD 220 is to seal the chrome cover on the bow and reinstall the chrome cover. Find a location that will be prtected by the Sunbrella cover and install a new horn in that position rerouting the existing horn wiring to the new location.

Just buy an all stainless horn with a plastic diaphragm.....they exist. You wont need to fuss with canvas, hiding it or whatever.

I have had to replace mine once already. You think Sea Ray would wake up on this one.... Kinda like there crappy plastic toggles on the helms...

Buy a new horn and be done with it. They are about $35. It will take you five minutes to change out and hours with all the other ways described above.

I got a quote for the horn grill (P/N 1840005) of $13 from the dealer last week for my '07 220SD. The fabric on mine lasted only 2 years, and I keep the boat in a covered boatel. Pretty poor design!

Does anyone know where to get the O-rings for the gas and water fill caps? Dealer is claiming that they can't get just the O-ring. I would have to buy the entire cap assembly (cap and chain) at a cost of $47 for the water cap and $40 for the gas cap (don't understand why the gas is less). I could find the cap assemblies for under $30 elsewhere. Seems crazy but my web searchs (even on the Perko site) so far seem to confirm the dealer's statement.

I found the right size at a local NAPA. By the way, Jim, you should really start a new thread for a new question... otherwise you'll be known as a "hi-jacker". :smt001

Thanks for the lead.
Sorry about the "hi-jacking" - brand new to this Forum method of communication.

I just replaced mine. You can order one for 30 dollars online, or you can just go to your nearest autozone or whatever you guys have around there and buy the exact brand name horn that SeaRay installs in their boats for 12 dollars. I used Tyvex as a gasket. You can purchase a small roll of tyvex at home depot. Its the same stuff you use to wrap your house before you put siding on it. It lets air out and it doesn't let water in. Good luck!
