Water in gas

Looking for some advice as we are very frustrated. We own a 92 Sea Ray Sundancer. Our boat died on the lake and wouldn't start. We took it to the mechanic and he told us we had water in the gas. He drained the tank and changed the cap and rotor and charged us $200. We took it back to the lake and it did the same thing so back to the mechanic. He drained tank again and told us we needed a fuel/water filter and he installed and also pressurized the tank to make sure we didn't have any leaks, another $200. We took to the lake and it ran AWESOME for about 3 trips. Yesterday, it died on the lake AGAIN. I checked the fuel/water filter and it was full of water. Dumped it and it was still not running right so I checked the filter about 10 minutes later and it was full of water. The boat died again as we drove to put it on the trailer. We don't know what to do and are very frustrated. Please help!!!!!!!

I had a wife once who partially filled my gas tank with water (accidentially, of course) and our mechanic took the supply line to the engine off and drained the tank from this point. He drained it until there was straight fuel-he used 5 gallon jugs and tested it in a glass container after every container. Since fuel is lighter than water it clearly separated in the container. I'm not sure how you mechanic is draining the tank, but it seems odd that you have had the problem three times in a row. Could it be where you are purchasing the fuel? Same location each time you add fuel? Very odd. Good luck!

Into which previously owned boat, did your previously owned wife, put water into it's gas tank.

And, did you get a good trade-in?

Sounds like "draining the tank" wasn't so successful. Unless water is getting into the tank from a leaking water tank? But, the gas tank would also have to have a leak in to allow the water in. I think all you need is a more productive tank drain. Maybe this time it should be a "freebie"? Or, bite the bullet and take it somewhere else?

Also, start using Startron additive or Stabil w/ethanol treatment. I honestly don't know how well these additives can cure an existing problem, but it definitely will not hurt. "Supposedly" it will help to "break down" some of the water and allow it pass through the engine, without harming anything.
