water heater issue?

If it's fresh water and your getting filter clogs I'd chuck the whole thing. What could possibly be in there to clog the filter like that?

Sounds like you might have both a pump issue and a leak. I'd start with the pump. Disconnect the outlet and at least get water consistently pumping into a bucket or something.

Disconnect the water line on the pump discharge and turn it on. If you get water you know the pump works. See if you can stop the flow with you finger over the discharge. If yes pump is worn out. Newo pump is 100 to 200.

The pump was replaced 3 years ago when the boat was stored (sat for 3 years) so aside from sitting for 3 years it is new. The shop owner said there was some mold looking stuff in the tank. He said he had the same issue with his boat and had to scrub the tank and remove aerators and blow air through the lines to clean them out. Mine doesn't look that bad. I was going to put bleach in the tank but not until I am able to get the pump working to get it back out. Plan to put the boat in tomorrow and don't want to be pumping bleach into the river so won't be doing that until after the season now.

K so last week I bought a water heater bypass at the local RV shop and proceeded to slice my thumb trying to cut the hose...lol. Anyway, got the fittings installed on the HWH just need to put the hose on.

On another note talked to the previous owner today and they said they disconnected the side of the 'T' that went into the HWH and plugged that with their thumb and thats when the water started running. Once I get this bypass hooked up I will bypass the heater to see what happens.

I don't think it is anything plugged as the seller had it working 2 weeks ago but they said they 'bypassed' the water heater. Not sure what they meant by 'bypassed' but they sent me a video of the water running.

Here is a pic. The red arrow shows the fitting that is leaking (or appears to be the one leaking). It comes out of the pump. I didn't think that would cause it to not work at all but just wishful thinking...lol. If the rain holds up tomorrow I will try to let the water heater run longer.

The cold exits the pump to a T that one leg runs to the rest of the system and the other leg to the water heater. The red line in this pic is deceiving. It is the exit from the heater that is actually underneath the blue one but looks like it T's back into it...lol

Anyone know how these quick disconnects come apart? Dropped the boat off last Friday for new bellows and bringing it home tomorrow to prepare for winter. Need to get it winterized and as time permits fix this freshwater issue, finish buffing and waxing the hull and whatever else I can get into.
Not sure if any of these are even leaking but if they are what is the best way to fix them? Replace the o-rings? Do they come apart like an air compressor hose quick disconnect?

They are quick connect in. To take off you need to evenly put pressure on the ring that is touching the red pipe. I’ve used an adjustable wrench or similar circle shaped tool to put loosely on the red pipe, then push it toward the fitting applying even pressure. When the grey fitting pushes in, at the same time pull out on the red pipe. A 1/2 inch pex removal tool will also work. Don’t pinch the red pipe. So yes like an air compressor, but your fingers won’t work.

Thanks. Have to figure out that pressure issue and want to scrub up the bilge and everything in it while I'm in there.

Figured it out. It has a small round shurflo inline filter that comes apart. Took the outlet side of the pump off and just a dribble. Took the hose off the tank and good flow. Took the filter off the pump and put it on the outlet side of the tank hose and just a dribble. Took the filter apart and it had an orangish color jelly type substance in it. Any idea what that might be? It was last winterized at the end of 2015 by a local boat shop and has sat since then until 2 months ago when we bought it. I'm guessing some type of anti freeze that gelled after 3 years? Wonder how much is still in the tank? The seller said they had cleaned it after the survey when it wouldn't work then. They got it working and showed me a video of it running so I assumed the filter would have been clean.

Well that didn't last long. Filled the fresh water tank today and added some bleach and let it sit awhile. Emptied it out then added some anti freeze. Started running the faucets to get the AF in all the lines and it quit running. Assuming the filter is plugged again. But I also drained the water heater and a bunch of that same orange stuff came out of there too so it made it past the filter. I am guessing it is old anti freeze that gelled up after 3 years of sitting? Now just have to figure out how to get it all out of there.

Take the line off after the pump and by pass the filter and hook a hose to that and run it over board how ever way it takes and get a old hose for your pressure washer which doesn't have the end on it to attach to the gun and stick in down the fresh water fill and run the pressure washer for a short time while running the pump, usually breaks up and loosens everything up continue till you get clean water also this works for breaking up the waste on the bottom of you waste tank just use a different hose than the one your using for your fresh water. Also after you drain the motor with the 4 blue plugs pull the lower hose on the water pump on front of motor, you be surprised how much more water comes out of there.

Thanks for the tip on that lower hose

My pump did the same thing with the jelly crap. Boat sat 7 years on land after being winterized before i bouggt it this year. When i filled the tank for the first time to flush anti freeze out of it it worked great then no water. I could hear the pump running tho. After some research i found the disc like filter at the pump was covered in a jelly like substance. Cleaned it and ran water fine for about a day Then same thing. Just had to run water and clean it over a day or two and have never had a problem again. The jelly crap caused the water to loose its prime.

k. going to clean the filter again next time i'm out there then try it again. hopefully get it all cleared out before next season
