Watch Hill info

Thinking of going to Watch Hill next week would love some feedback. My plan would be to get a mooring from Watch Hill Yacht Club. Does anyone know how far the mooring field is from their dock? The town dock didn't have any availability.

Jonathan, the OP is referring to Watch Hill RI, not the one on Fire Island.

I don't know why do you want to spend the money even on their mooring. The anchorage area is very close to town and has good holding. We stayed there just few days ago during T-storms with no issues. The town mooring field is stone throw away from the dock. I'll post some pix later, need my other laptop.

Thanks. The only reason for the mooring is we plan to spend all day on the beach and in town so not comfortable leaving boat on hook when I can't keep an eye on her.

This is when I was approaching the harbor. On the left you see the mooring field and the town. Just to the right of it you see the anchorage area.

I don't blame you for being cautious, but you'll be able to see your boat from the town. It's one long street with the view of the harbor.

A quick tip for having slightly better comfort level is to anchor around trawlers and sailboats. Look how they're spread out and if most are using the bridles, then this is the crowd you want to be around. When you see a raft of multiple boats on a single anchor, this is the crowd you want to stay away from.
