Our last boat had a washer/dryer installed that we did not use even once in the eight years we owned it. Our '06 44 DB has a Splendide 2000 S installed, and I keep looking at the space it takes up, imagining how much could be stored in that space. Have any of you removed the washer/dryer unit, and if so, how much hassle was it? Looks fairly straightforward to me, but sometimes looks are deceiving. Those who have removed the unit, have you ever regretted doing so?

The previous owner removed them on our 460. We have not missed them at all. The space is great for storage of tools, spares, manuals etc. I think it would be a simple matter to remove and just terminate the water lines.

There is always the Sawzall.

You should also consider resale value. If you're planning on hanging onto this boat long-term then it probably doesn't matter but if you might sell in the next few years you might consider keeping it.

Can’t help with the removal but as far as resale the washer was already removed and a refrigerator freezer was in its place when we bought our 52 DB. My wife and I saw that as a plus as we never used the washer either.

On our 420AC I relocated our W/D from the "laundry room" and moved it into a custom cabinet in the salon. The laundry room became a third bedroom.

We debated betting rid of the W/D when we converted but ultimately decided we might as well keep it. This past New Years day, while on a 8 hour trip back to our home port we were able to do all the laundry that we had on the boat as well as wash the sheets for the three beds. It makes cleaning up the boat before heading home a lot easier.

It's obviously a personal preference. We use ours all the time and when it started acting up, I replaced it.

It's not very easy job. The unit is bulky and heavy. It doesn't fit the hole unless you remove the side panel (the one that's below dinette table). You'll need to make some straps or lines to lift it out of the hole.

We also use ours all the time as we do part time live on it in the summer months.
I did have to remove it a couple years ago as to replace the control panel. As to the previous reply- you need to take the side panel off and get a strap under it.. Heavy as heck. Good luck

We enjoy ours as it is nice not to have to drag the laundry bag and forth...
