Attention BYC Members,

The following information was given to me from one of our members to pass along to the membership.

“Caution coming through the mouth of the Gunpowder River†– Possible large submerges metal pipe/piping. Strikes have been reported anywhere from 1000 yards. West of the Gunpowder River Red #2G to Green #7.

The Marine Team started getting reports last week of boats striking objects near the mouth of the Gunpowder River. The Coast Guard was contacted and they felt the strikes were actually coming from submerged dredging pipes coming from Hart/Miller Island and heading in the direction of Lower Island Point on Carroll Island. These pipes are marked & lighted. However these strikes are a distance from the actual dredging operation.

Both the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Baltimore & APG Marine Police (Federal Waters) are looking into this problem.

Yea, there was a little "dock talk" about that last weekend but it seemed more towards the mouth of the Seneca. On a sad note, I did see a 30 something cruiser hit the rocks at Leggo Point (mouth of the Bush River) as I was cruising towards Middle River last Saturday.

Greg, if you have never entered Bush River from the south, you must go up the bay quite a bit before you make that left turn. It is not marked and it looks like you can just cruise right in, that guy in the 30 something cruiser found out the hard way.
