wanted: windlass motor for 280 DA

Steve,

We thought our windlass motor was fried (same boat and year), but after a little investigation I found a single high voltage breaker that had tripped. The breaker is mounted in the engine compartment on the port side, ahead of the batteries, on the gunwale. It was difficult to find because it is not part of a breaker panel. Not sure if that is your problem or not, but if it is...you win.

Where are you on the bay....we're out of Middle River..

Steve,

The best source for help with LoFrans is Imtra (imtra.com). They are the US distributor of LoFrans. If you haven't talked to them, you should as they can confirm if the problem is the motor.

It would probably be less expensive to repair the motor than replace it, so long as the windings are not damaged. You probably have a shop in your area that repairs electric motors like alternators, starters, generators, etc., and they could repair it. May take some computer and phone time, but it will likely save you a few hundred bucks.

Exact same thing happened to ours one time a few years ago. Reset the breaker and have had no problems since.

Thanks all for the responses. We've pulled the windless motor and the bushing were good but the outer cluch cone was a little worn. we cleaqned that off and hooked the motor up to power and she spun fine. Now to see what happens when I reinstall.
