Hi,
I am looking for one or two Tachometor with the hour meter included for a 1997 sea ray sundancer 370.
Thanks, Bob

This is not something you want to buy used. Sea Ray uses Teleflex tachs and they are notorious for having a short life span. If you want exact replacements, then go to your Sea Ray dealer and order a pair (about $150 ea), but select the ones with the LCD hour meter since they tend to last longer. If you want a permanent replacement that you won't have to re-visit again, try Aetna Engineering's digital tachometers.

They are about $265 ea, you will need the optional trim bezel and you may have to have your panels remade if you want a neat OEM appearance. I have done this change/upgrade and have a photo of the completed panel if you want to pursue it.

Frank,

If available, can you provide the photo of the completed panel?
I'm looking at upgrading my tachs in a 1997 450da.

Good looking solution Frank! What would be your opinion of sending the problem tach out to one of the various tachometer repair specialists listed on the internet and in classic car magazines? I'm concerned about keeping my hour meter correct. Along that line, can the Sea Ray or Aetna Engineering tachs be reset to my present engine hours?

Sorry I missed this..........

I didn't worry about preserving the meter reading in the tach istelf. I have kept all my old tachs.......owned the boat since 1997 and have had 3 sets of Teleflex tachs (what does that tell you).......plus I keep a detailed log book of everything done to the boat. Adding the hour meters will total the same as the log book for the new owner....if I ever decide to sell my 450DA. But I understand the Teleflex can have the hour meter set to whatever you request for a "slight" upcharge.......like 3X the cost of a regular tach for diesel tachs, I don't know about the gas tachs with the alternator feed. Aetna will not run up the hours for you.

Another approach is to buy a pair of Hobbs meters and mount them on the engines after you leave them hooked up to 12VDC for a month or ever how many hours you need.

Why so worried about keeping the hr. meter accurate. They are so easy to manipulate, and when it comes down to it - the ECM on the engines themselves are far more accurate.
