Sorry, I do not have one.

Just wanted to ask why you are replacing the tach.

Was the needle bouncing?

I just don’t want to see you spend your money on something you can fix with a small screwdriver and 5 minutes.

The needle fell off the peg. Can I take the glass off and reset the needle on the peg?

I guess you may as well try.

Just FYI....you have the correct part per the online manual page 15 & 16
http://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/Company1729/1C1_24_74DEIPNXV5L.pdf

Here is the Sea Ray hustle / scam. That part number may be the exact same part as dozens of other Sea Ray part numbers. So when you Google it you don’t find that part number online.

This causes people to think they must have that specific part number.

I’d look online at e-bay or other areas and try to find the same tach.

If you can post a quality photo others here may be able to help you.

Mine fell off also.I put it back on and it still wasn't right. It jumped all over. The stepper motor inside was bad.

I found one at a local surplus place.Next time I go I can see if they have another if you would like. They had 4 but 3 did not work. They test them 1st.

So you're telling me I can take the tach apart and reset the needle? I'm asking because I haven't taken the instrument out of the dash yet. Is it difficult?

Better yet, here's a pic of the tach.

Getting the bezel off is the hard part. The glass is fragile.I dremeled the underneath edge out.

I bought a good one that had the chrome bezel and switched them out.I broke the glass on the new one but still had mine.

Hate to jump in, but how do you fix a jumping tach with a screw drive:huh:

If the tach needle was bouncing this is a common issue and easily fixed.

You remove the tach by unscrewing a plastic ring from the back then unplug the wires. Now you can just pull the tach out.

Turn the tach around. Look for a small selector switch. Note the selector switch's present location.

Move this selector switch back and forth for a few minutes. This movement cleans a contact point inside the tach.

You move this switch with a small straight blade screwdriver.

Put the selector switch back to its original location. You did note the selector switch's original location, right? Reinstall the tach.

It’s a 10 minute job.

Note: Photos are from Scott. Thank you Scott.

Thanks I will give it a try!!

Sea Ray doesn't have a hustle or scam. You are omitting some facts here.

The Sea Ray part numbering system is proprietary to Sea Ray and their dealers. It is part of their entire materials and resource planning system that covers everything from tachs to gelcoat, to resin, to caulking. There is no grand plan to hustle anyone.

Parts that are common to different models have the same part number, so if your tach is used on 3 other models, all 3 parts lists will show the same part number for the tach.

You can't google everything in the world and this is a good example of that. The Sea Ray part number doesn't mean anything to anyone other then Sea Ray or a dealer. The vendor they buy parts from likely cannot even cross the SR part number to their own. You can go to a dealer's parts guy and ask for the OEM vendor and the part number. If they are cooperative, you can certainly get it, especially if the boat is a non-current model.

Sea Ray does not stock parts for non-current models, but due to overlap of models, they have a lot available at the factories. Once they no longer stock the SKU you need, they would much rather give you the contact information and let you order it yourself. Ordering you one out of date tach from Teleflex, having it shipped to the factory, repackaging it and sending it to your dealer for you isn't a money maker and they know it. There just isn't enough margin on a $175 tach to mess with, so they will almost always get you what you need to find and order parts yourself.

Frank,

You are correct and you have my apology. Scam is not the correct word.

Frustration took over control of my fingers on my keyboard.

Sea Ray does some things that I find frustrating.

For example, they seemed to have gone to great lengths to find a light bulb socket above our stove that requires light bulbs that are extremely difficult to find replacements. (found out I could screw in a European to Candelabra base adapter for $2 then use standard candelabra light bulbs)

They use this internal part numbering system making finding replacement parts for out of date models difficult.

They choose windshield wipers that make replacing them expensive or difficult (found out I can use Ford L series truck wiper blades)

They use items like soft touch pads for cockpit controls that once the model is out of date become very difficult to source.

Actually, to be honest, it’s not just Sea Ray that does this but my boat is a Sea Ray and I’m on the side of the equation that gets to feel the frustrations of this scenario.

but when you do find that hard to find part at the source for 1/10th the price, it makes it all that more rewarding.
