Want to repalce my three blade old style 340DA props with the four blade props used on the new style 340DA.

Alex - when (and if) you get these props, let me know how about the performance change. Thanks.

Jim

I agree with Greg. One of the reasons the new 340 feels more responsive to throttle inputs even though it has substantially more deadrise than the old 340 is the four blade props.

Now I just wish I could find a pair for reasonable money :(

Try making a prop by yourself if you think the prices for a new set are unreasonable.

Have you priced Nibral lately?

Michigan Wheel made ours, had to cast them, $2200 if I recall. Took almost 8 weeks as they had to re-do one as it failed QA.

Ours are 16 X 16 cupped and they are sweet. I grin every time I see them. She is up on plane in 4-5 seconds and bites very well around the dock.

About 2 months ago, PW marine had plenty of them second hand in various conditions for around 500 each. SB

I think so, nothing scientific though. We did a 3+ hour run last year that we did a gain this year. The fuel gauges are showing more fuel this time, but who knows for sure. I have not filled up again since they were installed plus we have been doing a lot of hull speed cruising so I will truly not be able to compare.

What advantages will the four blade prop give you? I have a 2001 DA340 with the 8.1's with three blade props.

More speed? Better fuel burn? Are the benifits woth spending $2,000.00 ??

Up on plane quicker , less vibration, and better 'bite' around the dock. I personally have not noticed a difference in fuel burn between the 3 and 4's. However, I really do not pay too much attention to fuel burn rates. Cruise at 3300 - 3400, leave the rest up to the fuel gods.

Like Greg said. The four blade props have SIGNIFICANTLY less prop slip. This is especially noticeable in four areas:
Maneuvering at idle. The boat will move right there when you put her in gear like a diesel boat.
Getting on plane. With the three blade props you'll notice tons of prop slip and the 340 is rather sluggish to get out of the hole. With four blade props hse really gets up and going on plane a bunch better.
RPM at cruise. you should be able to do 1/2 knot better at the same rpm between 3000 and 4000 rpm.
Fule consumption. A tick better due to less prop slip.

The 4th blade provides stern lift. Less fighting to keep her on plane. Less tab to keep her there as well. All this equates to better fuel economy.
