Possible re-development of Walkers Cay

Posted: 04 Aug 2010 11:26 AM PDT

A press release from AlphaCRE, an Atlanta based land acquistion company and commercial real estate developer reports Walker’s Cay on the north rim of the Little Bahama Bank is under contract to be sold to a group that will re-develop the island resort. The once popular fishing resort and marina fell into disrepair and was closed by damage from hurricanes in 2004. Although the Bahamas government still lists Walker’s as a Port of Entry, the marina there has remained closed with it’s docks in ruins. If the sale goes through, the developer has big plans for a new resort. The plans include a 258 slip marina for vessels from 30 to 150 feet and 48 boat dry stack storage, two hotels, 28 condominiums, 44 building lots, yacht club dining, fueling and ships store, and a 2800 foot runway. Currently no time schedule has been given.

While at Bimini last weekend, I heard a rumor that Guy Harvey was looking at Walkers.

I hope someone buys it. I don't like seeing it all knocked down.
The customs office is still operating, no dockage really avaliable, but you can anchor or tie to some of the remains and dingy in. The office is located up the sea plane ramp, and to the right.

Rosie's in Grand Cay is doing his best to pick up the slack. He's doing a great job to, it would be tough with out his marina and store.
