I just cleaned my walker air sep filters with the factory cleaner and red oil kit. I followed the directions and oiled each pleat as directed. I let the filters sit before installing them for about an hour and some of the oil drained. Did i oil them too much? If i did, can it damage the turbo? Also the paint from the air sep enclosure has paint missing from the inside, i guess this got sucked into the turbo and was combusted? Is this normal???? I had a captains breifing from my local Cummins service company and he stressed how important the turbo vanes is to be balanced and clean.

Maybe a little too much oil........I clean my Air-Sep filters during the annual service. The first thing I do is to wash the element them shake them out and let it dry all day. The last thing I do that day is to oil the filters and let them rest on their ends, not their sides, overnight. That gives the elements all night to absorb the oil and it also means I am fresh the next morning when I have to mess with those stupid Walker springs.

The engines will ingest the extra oil. They run on oil anyway, so you may get a little blue smoke, but the extra oil will take care of itself.

My housings had no paint, other then some over spray on the inside, but if its gone and your engines still run good, move on to a real problem.

Not much can happen to the intake side of a turbocharger as long as the air going in is clean and you don't have a lot of crankcase blow-by. As long as you don't run your engines without the Air-Seps in place, you have no worries about the intake air being clean. The backside of the turbo is where most people have trouble since exhaust gasses power it. Leaks in the exhaust system, leaks that allow sea water or antifreeze to enter the exhaust side of the turbo housing are never good and usually have a significant cost associated with their discovery and repair.

Frank - Thanks for the reply - my filters sat overnight with oil, i installed them and have not run the engines yet. Going down now to run the engines
