Wakeboarding threag

So we went out this past Saturday, just my bud Matt ("Slacker" on this site, but he is lazy and doesnt come here much :).

Water was a balmy 60, the air around 64-68.

I wore my drysuit, and Matt braved a 3 mil full wet.

We both did well for the first day back out on the water. Got a lot of runs in. We put more length on the rope (70' compared to 60' last year) and it makes a great difference in how much time you have in the air, which was awesome! Got a few good grabs in, was able to w2w heelside, but toeside with the new spread had to land before the 2nd wake.

Was able to 180 so that didnt change, and able to do surface 180's out in the flats.

Most importantly, I was pretty damn sore on Sunday! Feeling perfect now, but all in all a good first day out. We didnt bring a camera, but Matt took some from the camera phone...the lake, and then me in my drysuit before "burping" the air out! lol Couldnt get any action shots since it was just he and I.

LOL... that last pic is pretty good. I'm going out Sunday and going to hit the water for the first time this season. I was out last weekend but was too much of a chicken to jump on the board. Water is sitting around 65 and the weather was only about 70 that day. This Sunday we're supposed to get 80 which should make warming up a little quicker. I don't have a suit so I'll just be out in swim trunks.

Is that extended pole you have something aftermarket? My boat has the one that just pops up.

lol..Yea, I was rollin in the suit! Its amazing how much air gets trapped and has to be burped out. It does help you stay afloat though even more than the vest!

Youll be fine. As long as the water is at 65, then everything else is air temp. In 80's youll be very fine with getting out of the water after. Good luck! Take some pics.

That is the upgraded magnetic drop in tow post from Sea Ray. It is an option. I like it because it raises the rope up a bit, and is easily removed for wakeboarding or anything else you want to do.

That's good stuff... the kneeboard battles look like they'd hurt. We've always done that w/ tubes, much softer.

I got to do a few runs early Monday before heading home but my camera battery was dead so no pics or vids. I would like to say that I absolutely love the wake this boat is putting out and the tower is awesome. I'm easily clearing HS W2W and actually tend to get so much air I start to lose my balance. I don't know if it's the tower, new board or new rope that's making the biggest difference but so far I love it!

Might try to sneak in a mid-week season if not I'll be out this weekend with a fresh camera battery.

Cool! Glad to hear you had a great day out, and that the boat and tower are exceeding your expectations. Makes the sport more fun when you are happy with your equipment.

As far as making the biggest difference, all of that helps: clean wake, the height of the tower, and your enjoyment most of all gets you clearing because its so satisfying!

If you are losing your balance in the air, that is usually caused by your ollie off the wake or having slack in the rope. Be sure when you go up for the jump you have proper line tension, and that you arent leaning forward.

We were out on the boat all day Monday, but most of it was just rafting up. The boat traffic wasnt too bad, but enough that you get 50/50 riding a clean wake. We finally boarded around 3 and made 3 good runs each.

Im going out Saturday. So excited: no kids! My mom is taking all 3 for my eldest daughters 13th bday to go shopping for the day. Should be a full day 9-5 or so. My wife is finally getting out for the first time this year too. She is wicked excited, and has been watching "the book: building a foundation" dvd and "The chick flick" dvd as well for inspiration lol.

We will take pics. Should have a couple of more people on the boat as well to snap some.

My plans are to nail ts w2w, and improve switch riding, which I did a lot of on Monday. In another couple of weeks, Ill start working on a 360! I have been on the trampoline almost everyday. :smt001

Finally got The Book. I have been watching the Building a Foundation as well. I can't wait to get going. Hopefully my tower will be in next week so I can get it installed and start stepping it up. My 7 yr old is getting excited about boarding too. I'm thinking of getting us some lessons with some of the riders here in Atlanta.

Sounds like your riding has continued to improve Bill! Keep it up, I enjoy the pics and write ups

Excellent, it will really help. I know it helped improve my riding faster than if left to my own devices.

So cool your 7 year old is psyched! Best of luck to him to excel and have fun out on the water. What boards are you going to each ride?

My son is 3.75 yrs, so I have a couple of more years to wait.

Thanks for the compliments on the posts. I should have a lot of stuff this year. There are now 4 boats with towers in our circles of friends, all within 2 miles of me, so lots of options now for lots of water time. Should be a good summer if it ever stops raining.

I ride a CWB Pure (141) with Torq bindings.

I am looking at the Liquid Force Nemesis (119) for my son.

Very nice, two good boards.

Do you like the Torq bindings? My buddy just bought the same combo as you and I havent seen it yet. I heard some good things about them.

I like the Torq bindings. They are very comfortable and very easy to get in to while on the water. I was really thinking of going closed toe due to wearing a pair of my friends. Very comfortable. They were Ronix. I can't remember the exact model but they were like $400 and I cannot swing that right now. Too many irons in the fire currently.

The board is great. Plenty of pop but still forgiving for the noob (pointing to myself)!

What do you ride?

I was contemplating the closed toe as well, only because there were a coupel of times the handle wacked my feet! Ronix makes good stuff. My buddy got the same board/bindings as you, and his wife got the Lotus...not sure of her bindingd though.

I ride a Byerly Legacy 56" with Liquid Force Omni bindings which need replacing. I liked them at first, because I wasnt so sure about the newer boots. I am used to the old school sandal bindings, so even going to the Omnis was such a radical difference to me! The board itself is awesome. LOTS of pop. Good eventually for inverts, but tough to spin though because its kind of heavy.

My wife rides a Hyperlite Opal with Eden bindings. Nor sure the size of her board...think 143?

Got a pic of your boat? I dont know if Ive seen it.

I saw Bill harassing someone in another thread about being a poser... thought I'd post up some pics from the fourth. Only made it out once in four days because I cut my toe up on a stupid snap.

Sweet! Looks like you are taking advantage of and enjoying your boat!

You are getting some good pop there too, and the wake looks very good.

What snap did you cut your toe on?

I was tied up this weekend and was walking from one boat to my boat across the bow and stubbed my toe on one of the front cover snaps. I thought I just stubbed my toe but looked down and had sliced it open in the perfect shape of a snap.

Should be toughened up by the weekend it's just really tender at the moment.

I'm loving the boat and the wake. It was my buddy taking the pics which it was his first time out with us while we were boarding. He took a few more but those are the only ones that weren't blurry.

Ouch. Sounds like a good digger. That would bother me a good amount too in bindings, let alone probably ripping it back open.

Taking action pics is tough on a boat. I have tried, and have probably 3 good pics I took out of 100 or so shots. Cant do it. I also only have a mid priced Sony digi camera, so Im sure that doesnt help.

Grrrr....why do I look angry?

lol...riding the other day

sorry if this was discussed already, but i have neither the time or patience to read through eleven pages of comments. Maybe we need a Water Sports Forum. Anyway, i have only been wakeboarding a short time but have really gotten hooked. My wife and 12 year old love it too. My question is this... are my 5 and 8 year olds ready??? What age did you start your kids out? I have ordered an O'brien Funboard that they can learn on. This is like an oversized boogey board that is pulled by the boat that they can stand up on and not have to hold the rope. THOUGHTS?
