Wakeboarding threag

I have yet to try wakesurfing... but it looks like it'd be really fun and I'd have to agree doing it behind a 29 foot boat would be a blast... bigger the better.

I haven't had it on the water long enough to experiment. I'm thinking wakesurfing may be pretty good, because I'm sure the wakes are going to be monstrous at 10-12mph.

DANGER: You CANNOT do wakesurfing behind an i/o. PLEASE keep this in mind. Unless of course you have an infected limb you want to get rid of or want to try out that new face transplant surgery. Im sure you all know this, but ya never know.

As far as wakeboarding behind a 290, sure. The wakes will not ramp up like a smaller runabout and will be a bit wider, but heck, Byerly used to board behind a barefoot boat that put out almost no wake-and do inverts. You could also try double ups if you can teach whoever is driving to do that.

I'm already pumped up about getting the board out this year. As soon as i get the boat back together I'm thinking about breaking out the wet suit!

I just bought a drysuit last weekend. Oneill boost. As soon as my boat is done, Ill be going out within a day or two of the return. The water is around 47 and air temps have not gone up past 50 much, so a wetsuit would be wicked cold!

I just spent the entire afternoon watching youtube videos on wakeboarding... and then I get an e-mail that I don't get to take delivery of the new ride until the last week in April. This waiting game is killing me! I have a new board that's just staring at me.

I bought my boat in late October, so I had to wait the whole winter! It was in my garage just mocking me. It will come! Just a couple more weeks.

In the meantime, I HIGHLY recommend buying "the book" dvd. But the first two: starting out and building a foundation, even if you have some experience. I just watched the first two recently to brush up. They are fantastic instructionals.

So I figured Id post what I have been doing for the last month or so regarding getting ready for the season.

As you may/not know, I started boarding again last year for the first time in 15+ years. Did pretty well last season, but didnt get out as much as I would have liked.

This season, I have a lot more days off of work, so plan on at least twice a week or more.

I have been doing a whole training regimen :smt001 I have lost 18 lbs in the last 4+ weeks, with around 12 more to go. I have been lifting light weights and doing light aerobics every morning, and every evening have been doing trampoline exercises with the tow rope, wind sprints, stairmaster, and a handlepass exercise using a towrope handle and gallon jug of water. And of course, eating properly.

By the end of last year could do decent 180's, but only ts, rarely hs. I plan on being able to do all 4 180's this year with grabs, hs and ts 360's and at least one good invert, most likely backroll.

The trampoline is FANTASTIC as a training tool. Not only for the pure aerobic exercise, but I have really dialed in the way to leverage on the rope to initiate spins rather than using my body, which is the KEY to successful consistent air tricks. It also gives you great "air sense" which on a boat you cant do 25 times in a minute.

As well, been playing ice hockey as usual, at least once a week.

So there it is. Psyched about the upcoming season! My wife is too, and she actually watched "the chick flick" last night when I went to hockey. Both of us are ready!

:smt009 It is supposed to be threag!!!! It is bad luck to name your own thread as such, so the "threag" designation was created on a few other websites I am on for this.
It was done on purpose, and I do not appreciate the editing :smt013

ps...I dont care about the editing:smt001

Wow.. thanks for recommending "The Book" that's got some great stuff in there and looks like it's going to be really helpful.

I grabbed some video from last season and put it up... pretty basic / beginner stuff but I only got to hit the water about 5 times last summer. New boat should help change that this season.

My goals for the upcoming season are consistent w2w both HS and TS as well as getting more comfortable riding switch and doing 180's.

"The book" is fantastic. The first one "getting started" is a bit slow in the beginning, as it gets into equipment, safety, driving the boat, and how to get up, but it also has some beginner slides and how to "use" the board.

The second vid is where it really gets going. If you order soon, they give you a free 3 month subscription to learnwake.com, which is by the guys at "the book." It is the best website for wakeboarding instructionals ever! You can post a vid of yourself, and Kyle and Mike (2 coaches from the wakeboard camp) watch it and give you specific pointers! Then they follow up with you on the next vid you post to see progress. It is like having a personal instructor.

PS...saw your vid, you have a very good foundation. Id skip the first vid and just get "building foundation" and the others after that. Happy riding! I should be out this weekend of all goes well. Drysuit is hanging, waiting for me!

I ordered the mobile edition so I could take it out on the water with me. I think it will be really handy for me as well as beginners so when they ask "how do I get up" I can just make them watch the video before they start.

You're up in Connecticut and you're heading out.. that's gotta be a little chilly. I think I'm going to grab a drysuit or wetsuit this winter so I can head out and ski next spring.

I just traded in my 2001 Super Air Nautique for a SeaRay 290 Bowrider. I hope I don't have to give up wakeboarding with this boat. Not really doing much advanced, just 180's wake to wake and an occasional 360. Anybody ever board behind a 290? I have the single 496. I just took delivery yesterday and haven't had it out trying to maintain a 20mph run yet. Also we just took up wakesurfing a few years ago, anybody try that behind a 290BR? The Super Air just wasn't going to be safe on the Lake of the Ozarks on weekends.

Thanks!

It won't be a problem. My brother has a 290 and board behind it, no problem even for his kids(12 and 8). You just have to try different rope lengths to determine the sweet spot.

As for wake surfing, "What Bill said".

Ahhhhh.yes, very smart on getting it for mobile. It will totally help while on the water.

It wont be bad on the water in a dry suit. The feet may get a bit cold for the first couple of minutes (I have gloves for my hands), but other than that, you wear something warm under the drysuit and go for it. As log as the air temp is moderate, thats all that matters.

Sweet! just found this thread, main reason I picked up my sea ray was for wakeboarding. I'm looking to get board holders for the tower, haven't been able to find the specs anywhere for diameter. Anyone know what size the stock tower is?

Cool! Looking forward to pics, vids and anything else ya got! Pics of the boat?

The Sea Ray towers are made by a division of Monster Tower (XTP I believe)

I dont have XTP's #, but I know if you call Monster they can help you 877-77-TOWER (877-778-6937)

They have the correct sizes for the tower mounts for board racks, mirrors and other accessories.

In another thread it was noted that the stock tower is 1 7/8" in diameter but I think Bill has the better suggestion by just giving them a call.

For those of you having trouble teaching people how to get up i recommend watching this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW1GhUpIcc0

It drives me nuts when i can't get someone that wants to learn out of the water. Its hard as hell to teach someone when it has become like second nature to you. I found the above video helpful after watching it a few times. I didn't really have any instruction 10 years ago when hoped on a board for the first time. We just kind of pulled each other till we learned how to get up.

I'll let you know how well that technique works... I'm planning on getting my wife to try wakeboarding this summer. She tends to be more of a sun pad decoration so it should be interesting. Would be cool if she enjoyed the sport though.

My wife loves to board. She has watched the chick flick a few times in the last couple of weeks to get psyched. She bought some new board shorties (modeled them for me the other night yea!), and I am getting jealous of the attention she has been paying to her wakeboard

It is totally fun to have a wife who is so cool to be with. Definitely my best friend. :smt001
