Thinking about switching from fixed to swivel...'cause my 45 year-old back needs any break it can get.

Anybody have swivels, or make the switch from fixed?

Was it worth the cost and bother?

I 've also switched from Fixed to Swivel Wheel. Swivel are always better than fixed. Swivel wheel strollers are better around obstacles and in crowds, and are easier to steer at lower speeds.

Well, aside from the obvious spam reply above, yes, the swivels are nice since it brings the rack to the inside of the boat. By chance, I just happened to see what appeared to be Sea Ray OEM swivel racks for $125 on ebay. This was Saturday - not sure if they're still there or not. I also can't say how I came upon those as it wasn't really what I was looking for - I just remember thinking that it was an awful good price.

But, no, I've never looked at the two types of racks close enough to see if anything interchanges.

Hey Dennis, thanks for the eBay lead. I saw those a few weeks ago, and checked in with Sea Ray to confirm part numbers, etc. I don't believe they're the particular ones I'm looking for:

Well, I was just informed that these are $899 *EACH*, not for a set of two. Talk about a buzz kill...

Wow - I guess it's been a while since I looked at "stand a lone" pricing. I usually only see the "upgrade" price. What's the part number for the rack you're looking at?

Have you thought about just going aftermarket or looking at a rack from a different boat brand? I don't know the price, but if it's the same size diameter, a friend of mine has a Mastercraft and his racks are pretty nice - they lock the boards down with a lever, instead of a bungee.

Hey Dennis,

I've started looking, and am now open minded. I just want to make sure that the mechanism allows for the boards to be horizontal in the stored position. Some of the racks I'm seeing online appear to be designed to mount on a tube which is either horizontal or vertical, and my tower angles forward.

Well, found something at ... (get this) ... one third the price of Sea Ray's swivel racks!

Would have loved to give Sea Ray (and my dealership) the business and support, but $900 a rack? No can do. :-(

Nope, can't blame you. Just out of curiosity, what's the part number for the rack ($900) you were looking at?

What about the one in the link I have above? That one is $125. It seems to be basically the same design? Or am I missing something?

Hey Dennis!

The part number on is 2064400. I looked into the one you posted, but the clamp size is different and there was no alternate sizes offered. The wake tower on the 190 (and probably the 205) is 1.5" in diameter, which really reduces the number of racks you find on eBay.

I had just wanted to double check the pricing for you - yup - $900 is crazy. That's too bad about the odd sizing - I guess it shows you how much I know about wake towers - I thought 2" was an industry standard.

I'm so upset right now.

Ordered an aftermarket swivel wakeboard rack and a waterski rack for my 190's OEM tower, from highly rated eBay retailers.

The boat is stored about a 45 minute drive outside of San Francisco, so I asked a Sea Ray 'Product Specialist' what size clamps I needed for my tower. And he told me 1.5".

And today I go to do the install, and it turns out I need 1.75" clamps.

Because of this MIS-information, I:

*Used four hours of my accrued time off for nothing.
*Drove ninety minutes (gas) and paid $6 to cross the Golden Gate Bridge for nothing.
*Will now have to pay for shipping to exchange parts with the two retailers.

Buzz. Kill. Thanks, Sea Ray!

That's rough, Glenn. I know how frustrating things like that can be.

On the plus side, maybe you can get away with one like in my link above - which I think is even less money than the one you have right now? Plus... Santa's coming - it must be starting to get exciting around your house (with kids)!

Hey Dennis,

Thanks for the advice, and pointing out a possible 'silver lining'...

I'm actually happy with what I've purchased, and already initiated a clamp exchange with the sellers last night...

I've mellowed a bit on the incident after sleeping on it, but the response I recieved from Sea Ray's employee this morning was *LAME*.

It'll all be sorted out by Spring, but instead of having a good time doing upgrades to my boat I'm trying to work out exchanges.

Oh, well. Onward! :)
