I'm sure this topic has been beat to death and search didn't reveal and obvious answers... Anyway I'm trying to put together a fall fishing trip on Erie or Huron and my father and I don't want to be out without some sort of radio. Having a smaller boat from southern Ohio there is no radio on it. So my question is buy and install a permanent one or get a portable one? I'm not really sure what the pros and cons are other than one I have to install one and the other I just have to install some batteries.
Second question since you all are looking anyway... Suggestion on a decent depth finder or fish finder.
Admittedly I don't know much about either piece of gear but I'm a tech guy so lay it one me! Thanks!
