Vessel View compatibility

I have an '05 Sundancer with 8.1 Horizons and the Smartcraft system. I have been replacing all of my outdated electronics and have started to think about replacing the monochrome old Smartcraft with the new Vessel View 7. Does anyone know if it is compatible, i.e., simple plug in to replace or can be somehow "made" compatible, with my '05 engines and systems? The Mercury website says it is compatible with "Gen II" engines '07 and newer. That would seem to me that I may be out of luck, but I pay for anything to be done with electronics as I am clueless in this area.

How did you set up the PITOT and Paddle wheel, I saw options for PCM0 PCM1 etc. I also receive several warnings that disappear on start up....

The answer is yes. Plug and play. A buddy of mine has an 05 360 and did exactly what you are asking.

I verified with Mercury. Gave them my engine serial numbers and they confirmed your observations, plug and play. Yipeee, more money to be spent.

Excuse my ignorance on this topic, but I also have an older boat with the older Smart Craft. In looking at upgrading, I was told that I had to replace the entire harness back to the engine interface in order to upgrade to the new system. Are you all saying that you can plug the new displays directly into the existing harness, or am I totally off topic here? I was really wanting to upgrade, but didn't want to deal with rewiring.

Basically 8.1L starting in 2003 went digital so plug and play. Prior, the harnesses need to be replaced. I have 2001 versions. Best to just call mercruiser and give them your serial number. Then you'll know for sure.

Update. 8.1S 2001 are compatible with VV and VV Mobil. Added Mobil version in Dec. Awesome technology that plugs into 2001? AWESOME forward thinking on mercruiser's part!
