Trying to help a dock neighbor with a 2016 8.2 HO with catalytic converters that is throwing a code.
He got a code on the vessel view that said Starboard engine Misfire so he took it to a certified MerCuiser dealer at the end of last season and they said that there was a crack in the exhaust manifold that sprayed salt water onto the coil pack and that was what caused the coil pack to go bad and throw the code.
They change the exhaust manifold under the warranty which fixed the leak and told him they would have to order the coil pack might take up to six months ( Available on line ) to get it so they told he it was OK to drive the boat the way it was and they would order the coil pack, As of today he has not heard anything from them.
He ask me to check it out so we started the boat and it ran great so I said lets take it for a ride, we got on plain with no problem ( 4800 RPMs ) So I don't see anything wrong with the motors performance. ( How can there be a bad coil pack ).
So to diagnose this further I swapped the coil packs from the starboard motor to the port motor and vice versa to see if the code would follow the coil pack and it did not, so the coil should be good.
What else would throw this code, Checked Plugs, wires and coil packs.
The big question is does anybody know how to erase the active code ( Starboard engine misfire ) as there is no active codes in the history only a active code.
Can this only be done with a certified Mercuiser dealer.
