Very serious alcohol question...for experts.

I'm a pretty consistent tequila drinker but that comes with spending 1/3+ of the year in Mexico. The problem over time has been acquiring a taste for only good tequila's and I don't believe in mixing them or wasting them on crap buckets of pre-made margarita mix. We do make pomegranate margarita's with a cabo blanco, but you're talking work and cost. And, I concur that red or "staining" alcohols don't mix well in boats. Besides beer, we enjoy coconut rum and pineapple juice. It's pretty common "luau" drink in Hawaii and there's really no right or wrong on the mixing amount...I prefer the Bacardi Coco over Malibu. It costs a little more but you feel better in the morning. And big cans of pineapple juice are cheap, keep for a while and easy to transport.

On that note, I have a real hard time drinking beer out of cans. i know the "no glass" rule on boats makes sense, but tracking down significant quantities of corona and corona light in cans has been a difficult task. For those that don't, or haven't -- try oranges in your beers vs. lime - adds a nice flavor and something different.

Beer, it is also good for you. Don’t believe me here is a quote from Cliffy of Cheers fame.

One night at Cheers, Cliff Calvin explained the" Buffalo Theory" to his buddy Norm:

"Well, ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members! ; In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine! That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers

After consulting the Only Mate...Bob's, the Malibu Cranberry, and Tipbuckets' Grape Wave are going to be served either dockside or poolside this weekend and I will report back the initial results.

Yeah, the new flavored vodkas allow for some tastier variations without the risk of staining. I used some vanilla vodka with blue curacao and sprite for a 'blue moon' party last summer (blue being the theme). Pretty tasty. The color wasn't a problem... because the drinking was on a sailboat we'd all rafted up with.

Kearney, my point EXACTLY. I do not have the yacht that some of you do, but I absolutely friggin' do not want a pink stained reminder of a bad decision that could have been prevented by a little forethought. Some people may think this is a frivolous exercise, but I assure you that I believe it is very serious. I am not big on democracies, if they don't like what I am serving...go to another boat, but I will spring for a Spot Shot. Great idea! Thanks!

I just wish Costco still carried it in the four packs. For carpet I like the can better than the spray bottle. It's a bit expensive per can (usually around $4/ea) but it works wonders on stains and doesn't seem to have an ill-effects on the carpet materials. I do, however, make sure to thoroughly rinse out the carpets once we get back to the marina.

Good point about democracy on the boat. I prefer to think of it as a benevolent dictatorship. Thus far the guests have agreed. Plying them with liquor, good food and a fun day on the water tends to keep them rather agreeable.

Body shots, even more creative.

I'll second the Mojito and do not use a mix! I've not tried to make them in 'bulk' but will certainly try it. I know simple sugar solution is something which will store and I'm pretty sure the lime and mint solution would keep if you strained it after muddling to prevent it from getting too strong. You make the simple sugar or simple syrup with 1 part boiling water to 1 part sugar and just let cool. If anyone has a bulk Mojito recipe I'll take it!

For a single drink:
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 whole lime - cut and pressed to extract all juices
8-10 fresh mint leaves

Muddle the first 3 ingredients and then add ice, rum and tonic water to taste.

cup of ice... fill with Crown... watch body shots...

Since we are grandparents, can we still do that:lol::smt043:lol:

As to the Mojito - I've found the frozen Bacardi mix works great when you are making large batches.

Thanks for the tip - I'll have to try the frozen mix. I've only tried a couple of the standard mixers - Stirrings and Rose's - both weren't worth a crap to me so I just stopped buying them.

Alot of good suggestions so far. After several hours of testing and comparisons last night I did arrive at a conclusion and am willing to share with those at CSR, unfortunately I can't remember what I decided.

:smt038I recommend Patron anejo tequila, straight out of the bottle, no fuss no muss, shelf life forever, non staining formula, :smt038and when it's empty:smt089

Ciroc vodka and white grape juice.

Maybe cognac and ginger ale? I'm not sure what'll really leave a stain or not.

Offcourse, you have a keen sense of the practical...good idea!

Here's another one for the list:

Redneck Margaritas

1 small can of Minutemaid Limeaid
1 bottle of Corona
use empty can of limeaid to add your tequila to taste
stir well to make sure the frozen mix has dissolved
add ice and enjoy.
