Vermont sites/Must see

My Brother and his two kids are going to visit his girlfriend's family in VT. Of course her family is local and has some sites they'll be sure to take him and his kids.

But what are your "must sees"? They'll be staying near Willmington/Brattleboro area. Any boat rental or decent boating nearby?

If it were winter and you needed ski resort info I might be of some help, but unfortunately not much help for summer fun in Vermont. Brattleboro is right on the Massachusetts border, so not a lot of boating in that area to my knowledge. If they want to travel I would suggest Lake Champlain which is in northern Vermont. Beautiful lake!

Lake George is close...well within reason. Well worth the trip, and they can get a tour boat for an hour or 4 or rent their own boat.

I just saw this, Brattleboro is on the exact opposite corner of the state from where I am, maybe a 3 hr drive or so from me. The southern end of the lake is still quite a drive from there (even though it's 120 miles long, down on that end, it gets smaller and ends up connecting to the Hudson river). However, the Connecticut river runs right by Brattleboro, and at that point, it's a fairly wide river. A number of my friends have taken canoes or kayaks north, and paddled down the length of the Conn. River (over a few days), but pieces could be fun for just a short day. I've heard of people tubing on it too.

Just north of Brattleboro an hr or 2, is Quechee Gorge, a deep chasm that's picturesque.
