I know there is information out there about a replacement actuator that isn't $500 but I can't find it.
If anyone knows the source of this information, I would really anyone pure ate it. thanks

Do a search on 'progressive automation' - you'll see several threads that should help.

Purchased a replacement from Progressive Automations a couple of years ago. Here are the details:[h=1]Order Details[/h]Mini Linear Actuator (Stroke Size 4", Force 35 Lbs, Speed 2.00"/sec)

That's awesome and exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
Quick question, did it come with correct working or did you have to modify the tail ? my boat has a very short section of wires with a weather pack connector so modifying will be a challenge with available length.

Came with a different connector. Had to cut the old one off and splice the new in.

None of them will fit the spot I have, I'll have to move the mount and fill holes. oh well

Just google actuator and you will find some for under $100. I thought I had to replace mine this summer but I bought some pb blaster sprayed inside the tube and all around and let it sit for a few hours and started pushing the switch up and down a few times and the actuator is working fine since! I intend to spray yearly....good luck

I found some, I think I'm going to try the cheap one first because I can buy 3 for the price of one from progressive automation though, that's still cheapest. when I took mine apart, pieces fell out of it. it was toast.

I bought 3 from eBay last year and a few Deutch connectors. Feel pretty stupid though because the first one is flawless and not a drop of rust after a year of limited washing and tons of salt spray. Seems I only went out in terrible or perfect conditions all season.
Oh well, 2 spares in the shed just in case. Think I spent $90 or near there for 3.
