Various 390 DA observations/questions

I wouldn't get too worried. The other guys numbers are "guesses" based on cruise and idle as they don't have flo-scans.

Not guesses....they are based on the published numbers from CAT..+/- 3%......which are based on the motors being properly propped to achieve WOT of 2800 RPM.

RPM ---300HP --- 350HP -- 385HP --- 420HP
2800 ---15.6 -----18.0 ---- 20.1----- 22.9
2600 ---12.2 -----13.9 ---- 15.4 -----17.3
2400 ----9.4 -----10.8 -----11.8 -----13.3
2200 ----7.3------ 8.3 ----- 9.0 ------10.1
2000 ----5.5 ----- 6.3 ----- 6.8 -------7.8
1800 ----4.1 ----- 4.7 ----- 5.1------- 6.2
1600 ----3.1 ----- 3.5 ----- 3.7 ------ 5.9

Average burn numbers for my CAT powered 410DA, calculated over the entire 2007 season, are much lower.....in the area of 17GPH for BOTH motors.

OK... I thought you were putting up your Toyota Prius i-idle-around-at-10-knot numbers.

I burn 40-50 gph at cruise. YIPEEEEE!!!!!

The guy at the dock next to Mrs Robinson in his Sea Ray I think burns 1 gph... of ANTIFREEZE.

Yup, guesses, made without Flo-Scans. Guesses based on 350 hours of operation over two plus seasons using gallons to fill/hours run. Year one was 20.5 GPH average, year two 21.5 GPH average. The only time we idle much is north of the Wilson Bridge, in the no wake zone from hell. Otherwise, since my Marina sits right on the Potomac with no no wake zone hindrance, as soon as my mains hit 160 degrees we go on plane. I think Cummins' published burn at 2K RPM is in the 12-13 GPH range per engine; my binder with the published burn is on the boat.

Of course, your numbers may vary.

And heck, since gas and diesel are the same price now at the Marina, I ought to just pull those two big in line six turbo diesels and re-power with 8.1 HO gassers. We could do a Corsa through hull exhaust on the underside of the platform. Sure, I'd only cruise at 19 knots burning 40 GPH, but I would SOUND like I was going a lot faster...cool!

Hey..wait..wasn't Four Suns getting something like 8 300 horse Honda outboards (4 stroke, of course) bolted to the platform? Or are those the trolling motors?
