Ok, Somewhat started now that Stubing has Joined the CSR and West Coast Possie.
We have never been to Vancouver by Boat but want to check it out.
Stubing do you or any others have an advice or recommendations?

I see a new thread building:

2009 Jul 19th-Aug 4rd Vancouver/San Juan Island REDZVS

Or the Vancouver to Victoria Challenge 2009!

I think this could work too! Start planning now, routes anyone? Marina's? OK, maybe it's a LITTLE early, but I'll bet there are some great places to go, see and do while moored somewhere in Vancouver too!

Hello fellow West Coasters
As I am new to boating, I cannot offer any info on where to boat in Vancouver, other than to say that she is a beautiful town late July through September,... moderate temps with sunny skies,... not unlike Seattle. I will be trying to teach my kids water skiing/wakeboarding up Indian Arm, just past Seconds Narrows in Vancouver Harbour. Please let me know if and when you're coming up.

stubing, It may be a long day for you but if you take the Horseshoe Ferry over to Langdale, then drive to Earls cove or Egmont, launch there then about a 20-30 minute boat ride over to Hotham Sound, you'll have 70 degree water and skiing like this.

My Uncle own an island just south of there we visit 2-3 times a year. It's for sale now but that area is ideal for skiing and there's no-one around.

I'm itching to get back up there on our upcoming trip next Year.

That looks absolutely gorgeous. It might be the thing to check out this summer. I guess there must be hotels or campgrounds around. What kind of boat are you tubing behind? This past summer we found ourselves on Christina Lake, 7 hours east of Vancouver. Warmest tree lined lake in the country,... and what I considered the garden spot of the province. It's small, clean, and not very busy. We went skiing there and that fuelled our interest in getting the boat. My son is most interested in tubing.

Well I'm glad you got a boat.
The first picture tubing is behind my 1999 230OV< we sold in July to buy the 260DA. The Second picture tubing we're behind a 2005 185BR (My Unlce's). My Cousin also has a 2001 225WE we have been behind also.

There are a couple spots to get a room but mainly down near Pender harbor which also has a better launch.
The right Picture in my signature is in Canada just north of where I'm talking about.

We know a few folks in Pender Harbour, but never put two and two together on boating there until now.
I have a question for you,... I get a gas type smell when I pull off the bow and tonneau covers. It is especially strong in the ski locker. I had the marina that winterized it give it a go over and they found no leaks. Is this a normal smell?

Stubing: Christina lake is pretty close to our neck of the woods. I've never been there, but I'm going to see if I can throw that on the list for next year. Looks like a fun place to go and warm water is a good thing too!

Sundancer
I think you'll fall in love with the place. The fact that it's 7 hours away from Vancouver and 8 hours away from Calgary keeps it kind of a small town. I couldn't believe how warm the water was,... and clear too. Also, an hour away is a charming little town called Nelson. Not so good for boating, but a very quaint day trip.

And great skiing too! I think we'll add that to the list. The border is only a couple hours away and we've got our passports!

DOH :smt021 Passports.
I need to get those redone(after mine was stolen last year)
looks Like a great Lake to consider, but man it's hard to leave the San Juans and Gulf islans that offer so much variety.

Stu,
You'll have to at least make a run to Bedwell harbour or Port browning at least to meet us.
I'd love to meet you in Vancouver for sure.

How old are you kids? I have 4- 17, 14, and twin 5 year olds.

Not sure why you're smelling fuel. Have you checked all the storage and bilge areas to make sure that you don't have a leaking fuel vent or for some reason gas has spill into a storage or bilge area?

Hi Todd
We haven't made any plans for the summer yet but would certainly love to hook up with you. We have a 14 year old and a 12 year old,... one wakeboarder, one tuber. I ski a little and my wife is trying skiing.
Twins?!,... I play ice hockey with a pair of identical twins. Very few can tell them apart.
Regarding the fuel smell,... I've been doing some research on the net and found that some boats seem to have a little permeation coming off the gas tank while others have nothing. Our marina mechanic had a good look over, (twice, as I was paranoid) and found no gas leak:huh:. The previous owner never noticed an odour. I apparently have a supersensitive nose, but my main concern is that the boat doesn't go BOOM. Another fellow I met has a 2003 182 and said that he sometimes gets a gassy odour when he takes his covers off.
You mentioned a fuel vent leak,... I shall look into this further.

Our Twins aren't identical (1 Boy and 1 Girl) and you can expect great water skiing water up there nearly everytime + the water is usually very warm any time after the first week in July.

This picture is taken in Hotham Sound

And before they were banned we tried one of these.
