I have a 2004, 320DA with a decent sized v berth sleeping bunk. However, I’m 6’3” and my feet hang off the end of the bed. This is due to the rather bulky upholstery pieces, which are quite nasty at 14 years old. So, tonight I was bold and removed the upholstery pieces. The attached pic shows what it looks like now. I have some ideas to make this look nice, and accomplish my goal of a larger bed, but before I take action I was curious if others have done anything along these lines. Thanks!

Interesting concept Jeff. I would imagine any upholstery shop could do whatever you want with those pieces. Keep us posted, would you please?

I will. Planning to meet with an upholstery person soon and will follow up on here for sure.

Is it an optical illusion/ picture angle? It looks like the now exposed plywood shelve is wider on the port side than the starboard, especially under the cabinet door. Why would they make it like that?
Or did it not matter when it was covered before.

I am a big guy also. I thought this was going to be a major problem for me. I was ready to do the same thing. To my surprise it doesn't bother me at all. I just sleep with my head a little higher. Feet are at the edge. What I did find is I like that backing for sitting up and lounging. I decided to leave it alone. I did increase the amount of foam in the mattress though. Helped but still could be better. I think I might do a custom mattress at some point. There are pics of this mod if you google around.
