V-berth noise

Well I don't have a big boat but I spent 81 nights on it last year, then again I live in NYC so i'm used to small places. I'm used to the sound of pimps slapping their whores, but not water slapping the chines.

Today I'm one step closer to quiet sleep in slop. I put in a new mattress and yanked the norcold and put some rubber bushings on it. If nothing else I can rip a piece of the memory foam off and shove it in my ears. Another thing that i noticed was that my burgee pole is right above my head and when it's flapping in the wind, the little metal whatchamacallits wack the pole and it's driving me nuts.

We spent 70 nights on the boat last year. Our boating season is less than 5 months (150 days). Right now I still have 6 feet of snow in front of my house. I am only dreaming of hearing that slapping again. It is not a pain, I need it......

I hope to hear it again in one month.

what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

The one time where 'put a sock on it' isn't an insult. Literally, just grab an athletic sock and put it over the flagpole, wrapping the burgee on it first.

Our bow burgee made the same sort of noise. That is, until a thunderstorm bent the heck out of the crappy west marine pole and it's cheesy clamp. Scratching the rail in the process, of course. Picked up a new pole for a new burgee, this one has a serious CLAMP on it and a thumbscrew to remove the pole from it. Got it at the Annapolis show (think it was the 'sailbag lady' booth)

And if you forget to take the sock off it the next morning, be sure to motor out with the fenders down too. Gotta keep that redneck look going.

I'm not hip to all the new drug lingo.

Hard chine = wave slap. I once asked a broker what to do about it and he answered "get a different boat". Our 47 Bayliner was quiet, the 48 DB is not. Difference in hull design. Noise nothwithstanding, I'd rather have the Sea Ray. Suggestion: Have an additional bottle of wine before retiring.

I live in Arizona. In the summer my home is a 420 Sea Ray at Clayton, NY on the St Lawrence River. The boat has a 100 gal. fresh water tank. The river is a major seaway so you have ships going through and a fair amount of rocking even when the water is calm. Yes that slapping can be annoying. I found that if you keep the fresh water tank full, that will eliminated most of the noise. What I think is happening is the fresh water slapping in the tank, not the waves hitting the hull. Try it

Use zip ties instead of metal rings. No noise.

Wow, I go away for a couple of weeks, and look what happens. I just spent over 100 uninteruped days on the boat. I followed the well intended advice about an additional bottle of wine (not Whine) every night, now I need a new liver. I am not blaming anyone here, as I don't think it was the wine, it was the Kaliks BEFORE the wine that did it. Well I do sleep a little better knowing it is not just me. I plan on doing quite a few things to try to quiet the night, and I will post the results at that time.

Better watch it..I'd get permission from the little boat guys before I did anything. You want to avoid the "asinine" label at all costs.

Besides you have it so good in the Bahamas on a big boat that apparently you're just too sensitive if that noise actually bothers you.

Man it is such a hoot to watch you guys talk nasty to each other!:smt101

Say, what's this big boat small boat guy crap? Every big boat guy was once a small boat guy. :smt021

Why can't we all just get along?:smt043

While never actually tried, the noisey vibrating bow staff could be quieted with latex condum new or recycled as your "green attitude" dictates!

Boating is fun guys!
