What are we looking at Steve? Is she being scrapped?
No. She was being towed from her mooring museum to a shipyard for repairs. She has a bottom leak where they were pumping 2,000 GPH out.

I knew she was leaking but damn. She went to Galveston for repairs.

The Texas is all over the news here because our WWII destroyer sprung a big leak this spring and it is just temporarily repaired. There is talk about towing it somewhere to dry dock for permanent repair. The story line is kind of “see, the other ones need work too” so we may follow suit.

Every time I get a chance to tour one of our retired warships, I do so, and am always awed by how every piece of those ships are purpose oriented. The last one I was on was the USS Alabama and what a beast! The loading mechanism of those big guns is quite the design.
My hat is off to Uncle Bud.

I was only on the USS Missouri while touring Pearl Harbor. I would love to tour a battleship in more detail. My father was on the USS Bunker Hill and I visited the USS Yorktown in Charleston. It was the same class as the Bunker Hill but had been modified. I believe there is another Essex Class carrier in Corpus Christi...
