Hey All,

I am the one who posted recently regarding 2 beeps per minute on my 04 260 Sundancer.

I purchased the Rinda Mercruiser Code Scanner, $ 399.00
with the optional cable for interfacing to the PCM 555
electronics.

It works great. With the key on, I get one active code:

119 Steer CKT LO

Any help with this code would be appreciated. The Mercruiser Scan Code manual.

The Scan history shows the last 10 codes, as it does show various ones, but I won't concern myself with those since who know when they could have been triggered over the boats life of 200 hrs.

I will run the scanner again tomorrow when I have it in the water with the engine running and see if I get anythin else.

As always, your input is most appreciated.

Some codes emanate from a missing sensor - ie, it may ok to ignore it. Any other codes? Did you clear it the code and still get the beep?

I didnn't erase the code. I don't know if that is the same as clearing it. Since it
says active code I think it will come back until the problem is solved. I'll erase it
and see if it comes back. Also, I am going to hook it up again. The manual says
to check the freeze frame to determine if is due to the sensor not present.

I beleive it is present, so what I need to know is how to repair, replace or at
least temorarily eliminate the beeping ever two minutes.

Does (or did) the steering position of your sterndrive display on your gauges?

Just a WAG, but I would be looking for a steering input sensor with a disconnected wire or something in the power steering mechanism. Have you checked the p/s fluid?

Good luck...
Michael

Can you post the freeze frame values? They will look something like this...

FF Baro Pressure 14.66 PSI
FF Battery Volts 12.54 VDC
FF Sea Pump Pressure 0.26 PSI
FF Boat Speed 0.00
FF Manifold Air Temp 138.20 °F
FF Coolant Temp 158.00 °F
FF Demand 0.12 %
FF Engine Speed 0 RPM
FF Engine State Stall
FF FPC Total 0.0 Counts
FF Frequency Count 525
FF Fuel Level 0.00 %
FF Gear Position In Gear
FF Lake Temp 43.60 °F
FF Engine Load 0.00 %
FF Main Pwr Relay Requests 32772.0
FF Manifold Air Pressure 14.65 PSI
FF Oil Level 0.00 %
FF Port Tab Pos 0.19 %
FF Available Power 100 %
FF Run Time 278.02 hrs
FF Starboard Tab Pos 0.00 %
FF TPS Percent 0.12 %
FF Trim Position 0.00 %

I used to do this stuff back in the day...perhaps the running data will give a clue.

Belay that. When you are running you will get some live data that is accurate. The current code should be obsolete on the 496 and may well be a missing sensor....

From the Merc board...

Other faults caused by missing sensors are;
FUEL LVL CKT HI
PITOT CKT LO
SEA TEMP CKT HI
STEER CKT LO

You need the factory service manual. Code scanning is only half the job. A friend was telling me yesterday about how his Porsche factory scanner lead him on a merry little chase with a brand new 911 Turbo.

Well, we headed up to the top of seneca lake on saturday. I cleared all
the codes before the trip. All the way up the lake, beep beep, every minute or two.

When we got to our destination it was raining (argh), i scanned for new codes, and
sure enough there was the IAC code. Fortunately, because of the input from many of you, I had purchased a new one and had it on board. Changed it out in about 15 minutes and, alas, no more beeping.

Life is good again !

Glad you got it...sorry I missed the engine size. Good luck and safe travels.
