Urbanna Oyster Festival November 2nd and 3rd

Gary,

"And this guy owns the cornfield we all parked in:" - priceless

Sorry to hear you did not get to travel by boat but looks like good times were had by all.

Wow, nice job Prodigalson! It looks like you had a great time! Going by boat is a great way to get to the festival! Imagine how jealous the "landlubbers" were! Gary.... enjoy your pink sweater.

OH COME ON!!!!

He DID NOT go to the festival. He went 8 miles across the bay up by Rock Small where the waves were 3 feet and then he points his itty bitty video camera over the side to make it sound like it was windy... he was probably blowing in the mic.

We had 50 knot winds down here on the real Chesapeake Bay with 8-10 foot waves... Let's see Mr. Video Man go out in that!

Bridog- Gary is (sort of) right... I didn't go to Urbanna, nor did I claim to.. I went to Baltimore, and I did go from Rock Hall which is 19 (not 8) nm away.

I posted the video because earlier in this thread Gary claimed that my wife wouldn't let me go out in the predicted conditions. To which I responded that I was going regardless of conditions out of spite.

I also posted this to show that the "predicted conditions" where I was were nowhere to be found. It wasn't that bad out. I'm not saying that Gary's conditions weren't worse... I'm sure they were.

And Gary, a lot of that wind noise is coming from speed! Even though we were doing a leisurely 22 knots...

Oh yeah, and our CSR friend "RiverGalsMan" trawled on up from Annapolis as well. This guy has great taste in boats!

That's a picture of the boat right after I got there. I left Annapolis before lunch and pulled in to the BIH well after sunset. Trawling at 5.5 MPH is the ONLY way to travel.

Gary, I would have left Wednesday to meet up with you Friday. Remember, "drive 5.5, arrive alive."

Tim, nice job with the photo!

Jiminy Cricket! Why? Is it because the blue Sea Ray fairy brought her to life and if she tells the truth she'll become a real boat that can go faster than 5.5?

TB II ventured out on Saturday morning, overnighted at Colonial Beach on Saturday, then on down the bay to the Tides Inn on the Rappahannock on Sunday, overnigthed there; Admiral went to the Spa, boys and I played with trucks in the sand on the beach. Departed The Tides inn ysesterday around 3:00, then back up the Bay to Coles Point yesterday, arrived at Sunset, Bay was flat calm, magnificent. Overnighted at Coles Point, then home today. Worst weather we encountered was today on the Potomac, wind driven chop, 2' or so, with white caps and some spray. 24 knot weather.
Friday I service the Cummins and the Onan (again), winterize everything, then the shrink wrap guy arrives on Saturday. While he wraps her up I will detail the interior, clean the shower sump, etc.
A flawless weekend, save for the mid cabin heater throwing a "LO PS" error code. water flow is good and the water was not too cold to prevent the forward cabin heater from humming right along, so I am thinking low freon charge.
Season totals coming soon, but I think we will end up at 160 hours on the mains and 3200 or so nautical miles traveled...all of it safely, a blessing for which I am most thankful.

The Mrs and I will be there with many friends rain or shine. If it's shine we plan to bring the boat. If it's rain we will just drive back/forth to Deltaville since that is the boats new home.

I lived in Urbanna 5th - 9th grade and know the area well. Not a lot has changed since then. Happy to help out where I can.

I am curious if it is still available to moor in the harbor. I may need the assistance of a dingy or just stay aboard and watch the party from a distance. Are docks available and is it "first come first served"?

I think it's first come first served. Last year I planned to go and I called a few marinas. They basically all said they were booked solid. Dozier's said they'd stack the boats about 5-6 deep on their bulkhead. No thanks! Anchoring out may be your best bet.

Makes no difference. Last year weather, this year work, still no Oyster Fest.

1st come first serve and anchoring out with a dinghy dock. Slips were available at the last minute, literally. Our slip mate got a slip as the boat that made the reservation was too wide.

Great event, great weekend, hope you made it.
