Am planning a week long vacation on the boat this year and we wanted to head up to HDG out of Annapolis. We were thinking the following key spots:

Fri7-AugRock Hall
Sat8-AugHDG
Sun9-AugHDG
Mon10-Aug
Tues11-Aug
Wed12-Aug
Thurs13-AugBIH
Fri14-AugBIH
Sat15-AugReturn
We've been to Rock Hall before, and will be doing Still Pond shortly. That leaves Fairlee Creek as a high probable, and after that I'm at a bit of a loss. We are looking for places to go ashore a bit, while also tube with the kids (8/3). We must get off the boat frequently!

I've read the other post on this topic - I have a lot of lattitude in planning this with the caveat that my wife must have fun. So I need a little "new" and "interesting" rather than the same old haunts.

Many thanks in advance.

You may want to look into a stop at Mears' Great Oaks on Fairlee Creek, between Rock Hall and Still Pond on the Eastern Shore. It is a nice marina, good restaurants and nice pool, very child friendly. Looking at your schedule, you might want to fit that in bewteen HDG and BIH, it is just a short hop from Fairlee to BIH. If you are looking for a nice place to anchor out, check out the "ancorage" on the Bohemia River, just west of the route 213 bridge on the north side, or any one of the other coves. If you are looking for a marina stop, with a pool, fuel and running around room, you can hit Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbor, about 20 minute cruise up the Bohemia (before the "anchorage"). While BBYH doesn't have a restaurant, APO's Pizza delivers, right to the boat. And, if you have any boat issues from the first half of your trip, BBYH has a great service department. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. I will be at the Still Pond event the 16th through the 18th of July - leg 1 of my vacation.

Perhaps Georgetown on the Sassafras river as a possible stop. Also the Chesapeake Inn in Chesapeake City is pretty nice also, some folks from our marina just went up there and had a great time.

Thanks! The Sassafras looks geographically interesting and is different - anyone have a recommendation on marinas? Options seem to include:
Sassafras Harbor
Duffy Creek
Skipjack Cove - looks very upscale.

This is going to be an experience!

I've been through the C&D canal one for work - is there anything recreational anywhere near it? We have about 2 unclaimed days- is it work venturing in/through? Thanks!

We love Chesapeake City, right on the C&D - quaint, with some nice small shops. Don't miss the Bohemia Cafe! They have a nice cozy harbor, and we enjoy just walking the streets to look at the restored houses.

We had a great time there, but we also had a group of people and did a lot together. I am not sure there is enough to do in the town itself to make a several day stay. You can take a walk through the town in the afternoon and pretty much see it all. The Chesapeake Inn Marina was where we stayed and they were a great host. We were there on a weekend and they had a live band Saturday night right at the end of our dock. There are also several great places for dinner. It is worth the stop if you are headed in that direction.

Fairlee Creek is a good place for swimming and rafting up, a bit tricky getting in there so watch your markers, or even better follow someone else in. When going in you are going to think you are about to go on the beach. Fairlee also has a marina if you do not want to spend the night on the hook.

Going further north of Fairlee taking a cruise up the Sassafras for a stay in Georgetown is also worth the trip. I would stay at the Georgetown Yacht Basin.
