My wife and I bought our Sea Ray last summer, and have now decided to update the interior. I have removed everything from the V-berth and will move back slowly, but surely.

I am wondering if anyone (especially those with knowledge of this particular boat) has thoughts on ways to make the cabin more open, useable and conducive to weekends/weeks aboard.

Primary goals for this project:
Quality sleeping space for 2 adults
Bright and open feeling
maximum utility of space

Also, as a newbie, it would be great if anyone has any tips/tricks/never-evers that they would be willing to share.

By the way we are in Baltimore, so if anyone is ever up for a meetup, count us in.

Add MiracleGrow... water...and wait for a 480DB to pop out
Good luck ..add pics..wil be watching

There was a lady on here a couple of years ago that did a lot of nice work on an 80's 270 Sundancer. I can't remember her user name, but maybe she will pipe in.

Heather was her real name cant think of her handle either.Owned a marine repair shop down south.

I have been doing a restoration / upgrade project with out 1985 270DA but I am guessing that yours, being a 1980 SRV270, is different than the Sundancers with a cabin a flybridge.
Either way, here is a link to our project, you may find some ideas: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/23289-1985-SRV270DA-Restoration?highlight=
You will find cabin work spread throughout the first post.
Good luck with the project

I think her handle is Spookeay? If I'm right, the fact that I know that as a new member suggests I am spending too much time reading old threads

You are right,i think you can gain entry to the hole in the water club with that comment.

and the boat name was Event Horizon

back in the 70 and 80's sea ray used a lot of that dog brown colors.

I had a 79 30 footer that had paneling in it that you would use in ur basement. I saw a couple of people painted theres.

changing the rug or even adding hardwood floor changes the look drasticly

good luck pictures help

This might sound ridiculous and obvious but be completely sure of what you are drilling into and never-ever use screws that are too long. Someone on these forums drove a 2" screw right through the hull below the waterline doing some upgrades or remodeling. I don't recall who it was but I wouldn't call them out even if I did :)

Is it the same person that wanted to repair said problem using a carriage bolt and some 5200?

Thanks everyone. I will post some pics as it comes together. I appreciate the info about others that have done work on theirs and will continue to search for some of the old posts and such.

It seems like we have settled on colors and general product types. Upholstery will be Maroon and Off White (toward beige), wood trim will be either natural no-stained varnish or in some spaces painted white. The floor will be plasteak or similar.

Also, I appreciate the reminder about putting a screw through the hull. I like to think I am a "measure twice" kinda guy, but all it takes is one careless moment.

I re-did my 86 210MC a few years back Grey material on the cushions and a granite looking paint on all of the fake woodgrain - Really lightened up the interior. Post some pics so we can see what you are starting with.

So here are a couple of pics. More to come.

We have the starting point, and the removal of everything. The entire cabin has been painted with a layer of Kilz oil based paint since these pics were taken. I have the cardboard templates for the headliner cut, next up is paneling.

Hey, looks like you are making headway. I re-did my interior on our 1990 270, mainly the upholstery, and it made a huge difference. It's just me and the Admiral and we do fine room wise. Good luck with her.

Thanx for the pics. They are very inspiring to those of us who need a bit of a kick in the a$$ to get us motivated. Good job.

No surprises at all, which was quite nice. If there is one thing I can say about this boat is that it has a lot of work that CAN be done, but not a lot of work that MUST be done. My problem is that I get started with a one thing, get side tracked by the next. I have committed myself at this point to finishing those things which must be done before she goes back into the water (bottom paint, swim platform, cabin window repair) and the forward cabin.

There is so much wood, I could (and will) be stripping, sanding, and varnishing until December. I figure thats just a good excuse to be on the boat all summer :)

Anything is a good excuse to be on the boat all summer.
