Has anyone mounted underwater LED's on their 270 (or 250) SLX? If so, would you mind sharing pics?

I had a Hurley Marine "drain plug light" installed on our 250SLX. I see the new ones available are now LED, the one I had was High Intensity Halogen. Relatively inexpensive solution. Worked well for swimming at night off of the stern of the boat. I wasn't too happy with the High Intensity Halogen as you had to be VERY careful to make sure the light was in the water before turning it on or you would burn it up. I didn't have any issue with that, but the kind I had was also a big battery hog. The new LED ones solve both those issues.

1200 lumens. Is that enough?

It's kind of a subjective question....... for me, I was hoping for more. It seemed OK for swimming at night as it would send a decent lit up area around the stern for about a 8 to 10 ft diameter. It also greatly depends on the water clarity. Our lake is quite clean so it wasn't too bad. I kept hoping for results as though I had the boat in the Bahamas !!!

Keep in mind, I had the older style, not the newer LED type. I think mine had 1200 lumens too, but I don't have the spec sheet for it any longer.

Was it easy to pull the plug still?

I have the same question. I store my boat on the rack so SOP is to pull the plug when the boat comes out of the water.
I might just buy it and figure it out the hard way.

I see this is an old post but I am looking at plug lights as an easy option for some underwater lighting on my 240 sundeck. Note the description says if over 21' should consider different type of light but others have said they are fine. Lots of new LED multi-light plugs I see now on line, here is an example page. Anyone have experience with the brass Y-knot triple light, of course someone has a web page that only deals with boat lights go figure: https://boatpluglight.myshopify.com/

Here are a few reasons, I do not like the drain plug lights; If you have a trailer boat and need to drain the bilge on a regular basis, the cable is prone to fail. We have found cases of these light interfering with hardware such as wake shaping tabs and other similar devices. With larger lights like the trip-knot, check to make sure it will clear the outdrive with the it fully trimmed down.

Great advise. It is a docked boat all summer so plug wont come out more than once or twice. Will definitely check clearance, thanks!

Not sure if you did this or not. I installed the y-knot. We never got to see how it works because on the first trip, it apparently struck the outdrive or something else and broke off. I’ll just say we are lucky the bilge pump works well, or we’d be sunk. We immediately took it out of the water (long story) and put a regular plug in. I won’t be that dumb again!

I think the best thing is to get some high quality flush mount LEDs like SeaBlaze, drill the hull, and seal it up good with 5200. Virtually all boat manufacturers are doing this at the factory now, including SeaRay.

That sounds like the best bet - Thanks for the advice
