Ugly Boats

View attachment 71332

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Bayliners yet.

Junky as they were, there were a few sharp looking Capri runabouts, but most of them were mutts. The one above a stand out dog.

My dock neighbor has a mint pre bottle nose Carver Mariner 33 that’s not exactly ugly, but suffers from a snub nosed, bull dog look that I don’t care for.

Great interior though.

Ive never seen a deck boat that I didn’t find ugly and pontoon boats are rafts with furniture on them, so I don’t even scrutinize their styling.
I added to your bayliner post !

as far as ugly duckling... this one always struck me as "love it or hate it" they seem to have a following.. not my cup of teaView attachment 71321

While I could appreciate the interior space on those big aft cabin boats I could never embrace the looks of them.
They can be a bit of a PIA in the narrow unforgiving channels around here since they rarely seem to be on plane. I call them water plows because of the washing machine type wakes they create.

Curious...Do you think the guys and gals on the other owners forums talk about ugly SeaRays? :)
of course... but out of sight out of mind... lol
heres another ugly duckling. this thread has released pent up issues of boat design :D

A buddy of mine has one of these odd, tri hulled Catalinas.

It once belonged to Walt Disney.

I can’t decide whether I like it or not. Great cabin layout, but funky looking from the outside.

Calling it a blue water hull is a real stretch but I like the look of the hull. This would make a great river boat or a small inland lake boat for anchoring out. You could easily spend a week reading books, eating and swimming off it.

I like it better than the late models... I think that open cockpit area aft helps it

no words necessary. I think cruisers has introduced some bad cannibis edibles into their design teams' workspaces
just one comment on the vast expanses of windshield glass these days... look at that flybridge wiper arm and blade.... then imagine having to clean waterspots off that huge plate glass while trying to stand on the sloped slippery fiberglass underneath.. I guess the designers think the elves come out at night and keep all the glass clean

Top photo not too bad looking, bottom, pretty ugly

In our marina I'd point to a Carver Mariner over on the south end. It's a row of fingers with mostly 26-28 foot boats...DAs 'n Tiaras and such. And...yup, Shamu...that big slope nose. Carver often tries to plop a condo on top of a canoe! Looks Tippy!

Back in the 80's/90's them Baylines with the "Force" outboard specials were all over...and some were not the best looking..guess I can't say "ugly"..just..inexpensive looking. Those were the years that earned Bayliner their less than optimal reputation.

I've long been a fan of Ocean Alexander yachts but their new 90R just leaves me with my jaw hanging over how ugly it is...

Not only does it have windows going in every direction, but the top deck is just butt ugly. Then, to top it off, they gave it a bow that is nearly vertical and has no flare. This boat would give a horribly wet ride in any sea that is breaking over the bow.

Sorry, OA, you lost it with this one. Better check the cannabis level of your design staff.

The Mariner and the "Tennis Shoe" are both ugly boats. Definitely agree with that. There's a couple of tennis shoes at our marina. One was a 39 that never moved once last year. The other may be the same and he uses the crap out of his. He and his wife are out multiple times during the week. He had the back of his transom molded to fit 12 subs and multiple mid and high speakers. He's got subs under the cockpit seats, speakers in the head rests, and more women on that boat at the same time than you likely dated in high school over 4 years. The system is so loud you can hear it on the opposite end of the lake which is miles.

I have never been a huge fan of aft cabins in general. A couple of the Carvers look decent for aft cabins... More of a convertible with an addition on the back vs smooshed up aft cabin. The newer Carver posted earlier C40 I believe? doesn't look too bad in person. A couple of them at our marina as well. I honestly like the newer Euro styling in addition to some of the more classic lines. I have always been a fan of a clean styling and lines that they seem to have. Even some of the newer Euro type Class A RVs I tend to get drawn to as well.
