Any members out there? Just passed my Boat Smart exam this week and am thinking about joining the local Great South Bay Power Squadron. Looks like great classes they offer to members and a great bunch of guys.

I'm a member and you're right there are a great bunch of people in the USPS. The courses are better than ever with the new format. Seamanship and Piloting are very worthwhile classes. I may even retake Advanced Piloting now that there is more focus on electronic navigation. I still recommend learning how do to it old school also with paper charts for the time when your electronics die. As soon as I can find time, I'd like to take the marine electronics class and the weather course.
Enjoy yourself as you learn.

One of the better organizations i have been a part of. Most members, like most boaters in general, are really great people. As education is so important, USPS activities are geared toward learning something, BUT they NEVER forget to have a litte fun doing it! The member advantages are endless, from people with common interests and goals, to insurance incentives for advancing your education. Our Squadron, Lake Candelwood, is made up of about 150 members. A good mix of LI Sound folks, the Hudson Rivers crowd, and us fun loving Lake trash types! Sail, power, pontoon, ski, and even canoes and kayakers all have a great time together. Sounds like a commercial but it's ture. Good luck and have fun.

Great idea, all boaters should be members of USPS, good classes, good friendships, good times. My wife's AP, and I am P, she let's me know whose the boss
