Typical fuel consumption

For comparison only, I burn about 37gph total at 24 knots. This can be used as a starting point for an answer to your question. My thoughts are that you will not burn as much as me, especially not at 22 knots. I'm sure your boat is lighter, and as I understand it, those are really efficient engines. Good luck with your answer.

Agreed that the Cats in a 450DA will be more efficient than that. This is right in Frank W's wheelhouse, so I'm sure he will provide an accurate answer.

I don't cruise at 22 kts very much, but I think if I did I would be at around 22gph. I usually travel at 18-20 knots and using a "total" engine hour time of idle, river/exit time along with cruise time I am in the 18 gph range. (sometimes lower, like 16gph because I find myself going slower as time goes on) I know some people don't use this method, but it makes sense to me because in many places you CAN'T GO any faster than no wake, so I count all the time on a trip. I can tell you no matter how you count the fuel burn, this boat is VERY fuel eff. compared to other boats this size. Help at all ? Ps: Scott...what is your issue with a new poster screwing up and posting the same thing twice? I think I did that back years ago due to "newbe" ignorance?

Cat engines don't care what they are in or how fast the boat goes, so here is a short table of 3126 fuel burn no's relative to rpms:

2400 rpm =26.0 GPH
2200 rpm =20.0
2000 rpm =15.1
1800 rpm =11.2
1600 rpm =8.0
1400 rpm =5.8

Since 2400 rpm is max rated cruise, that is a safe number for trip planning. In every day running, the 3116/3126 engines have a sweet spot around 2200-2250 rpm where they just sort of loaf along hardly working. They are quieter ansd it is easier on the engines so most of us cruise around that speed.

I am almost at trawler speed these days. My old girl gets around 20gph at 2000rpm.
Thats give or take a little. JC

I'm always amazed when you guys talk about your fuel numbers. whats the 450's dry weight...25? and displacement and weight of the motors?
