Dear spouse and I did things a little different than most. When we moved south we downsized and went from a cruiser to a deck boat (2006 240 sundeck). We've gone tubing and skiing on other boats, but never had to set it up on our own, as we had the cruiser, blah blah blah.

Any suggestions as to your preferred set up for ski ropes and tube ropes?

Also, someone said they liked the hot dog tube. It does look fun. I've tubed on round ones and quite honestly, don't like lying flat on the water as you have to strain you neck to look up. I think a tube where you can sit would be better.

Please share your ideas and opinions!
Thanks much.

p.s. if you are in the Tampa area, let me know where you like to ski and or tube.

Ski ropes are generally 75ft max, wakeboard ropes about 60ft max and tube ropes are generally rated one rider thru four riders and 60ft max length. It's ok to pull a one person inflatable toy with a rope rated for four persons, but not the other way around.

I'm in Tampa as well, and I can't answer all your questions but I hear that Lake Tarpon is a good lake to go to.

We have not towed anyone yet with our boat but have a tube and rope to do it.

We use both types of towables. I'm sure you've seen the discussion about the low tow point causing spray into faces. We have not done anything to rectify that 'problem' other than riders taking turns getting it in the face... The hot dog type our grandkids seem to really enjoy as they are younger and like riding with parents or us. We also have a 2 person round one that allows you to sit up in it. We have a blast with both. We use the recommended ropes and just keep them attached to each water toy so all we have to do is slip the rope on the tow point.

We also use the hotdog type for tube. I just do not like the round ones personally. You will need to have different ropes for each one of the sports that you decide to take on. What we have found is everyone seems to enjoy the wakeboard and tube the best. Alot of times the skis do not even come out of the boat. Did you have any specific questions???

You also may want to use the search feature as there have been several discussions on speed, how to, etc.

i have to disagree with the wakeboard statement, depending on waht speed you ride it can be 60ft to 90ft+

depends on what you like and the speed your riding
Generally the faster the longer the rope.

Thank you all for your comments.

I guess I'm in the market for a tube and trying to decide what to get. I don't want something so huge that it takes over the entire boat, and I don't want something so small that it is lousy.

I'll find the perfect tube - I know it's out there!

Have a great week!

who said you can't tow with a crusier? I have towed my nephew's (teenagers) with my 240DA on an Obrian tube; Man do they love getting air born when I spin them back into my own wake. Normally we'll do this on upper old tampa bay around the safety harbor area. less boat less idiot's.

as for Sking if you're going to do it in the bay you need to find a shletered canal that is not a No Wake zone; good look finding such a place. otherwise you need to do it real early in the moring before the water gets all churned up with boat wakes and wind.

PS.

If youre in the mark, now is the time to buy as many stores are having thier "End of Summer" sales. hurry before the deals are gone.

Water rat - we use something like these to connect the tube to the swim platform while not taking up room on the boat...just an idea.

Just FYI those attachments are at Academy for $15. Same brand if I recall correctly.

Water Rat-

I use one of those battery operated pumps - $10 from walmart and it blows up my tube in a couple minutes. That way you can just store it in the locker on the way out and blow it up to use, deflate before you go back in if you are concerned about losing space in your boat.

There was another thread about this but what we have is a Jumper box that is in case the batteries are dead but also it has a light and pump on it and 12v outlet on it.
