I have a deposit on a 2015 410 DA in California, I have scheduled a marine surveyor, mechanical survey, Haul out and a captain ( In California you need a captain to drive the boat out of the marina ) for this Wednesday.
I am supposed to fly out tomorrow 6:00 pm and land in California at 9:30 pm and stay in a room that is non-refundable and cannot be canceled, Do the surveys on Wednesday and fly out Wednesday night at 9:15 PM to be within my 24 hour window for covid.
All of this has been set up for two weeks now, If I cannot fly out what do I do let the survey go on without me, Try to postpone it but I don't think the seller will let this happen as he wants this deal done and has waited two week for me to set all of this up.
I told all the surveyors I will bring cash to pay them, I guess I can give them a CC #
All surveys are two weeks out with appointments
I am screwed and trying to be positive on what to do.

What's stopping you from flying out tomorrow?

News is saying storm will end tomorrow afternoon
OK, I guess I didn't realize yall still had that going on... where is you first connection? Can you drive to it?

If you cant make it have them video the problems or facetime as they take the sea trial...either way I would move forward with survey...review report when you make it out there

The question that comes to mind is, Why are you buying a boat in CA if you live on the east coast? Are you leaving it out here in God's country? Also the surveyors, if you have a good one anyway can do the sea trial and surveys with out you being there. They can verify Wot and SOG numbers and you can probably live stream with them on the survey so you can be there virtually. I assume you have been aboard a similar boat if not this one in particular? I can't imagine doing a deal 3000 miles away and then shipping it home but I am a creature of convenience, hence a big reason I'm buying the boat that I found sitting in my slip;) opportunities like that are rare. Which broker is the boat with, if you don't mind sharing?
Carpe Diem

Are you working with a buyers broker?
Between the surveyor and YOUR broker and facetime, etc. You "should" be able to have your interests well represented.

Virtual survey is perfect, If I can't get out this is what I am going to do.
The 410 is what me and my wife want, We have been looking for a while locally.
Locally I can not find a loaded boat with just about all options, upgraded motors and a colored hull, Don't know why but it seems all color hulls boat, the color of the cockpit interiors and cabin interiors which are much more appealing to us are on the west coast.
I am getting this boat at a great price were I can incorporate the shipping cost ( $ 16,500.00 ) into the price and still be under market value for the boat that I want.
I can get this boat under 395K and locally they are from 450K to 500K, I looked at all of them that are listed on the internet and have been lied to from every broker about the condition of the boat.
One just got listed in Surfside 3 in Lindenhurst, the broker said it was a pristine boat.
We were on the boat on the fist day it was listed 465K with white hull.
Boat need some work, Ripped seat at the seam, Bathroom window was leaking with rust stains, and it goes on and on.

The boat is listed with Rick Obey Yacht Sales.

I have been on this boat it needs some TLC but at the price and this is what we want, I am willing to do it.

Good Luck with the survey & sea trial! And the travel!
Hope you make it out there

That is a really pretty boat - loved those when they came out, and that would be my color choice too - good luck with the purchase and shipping!

Oh man, this stinks. I went through the same thing last October with a boat in South Carolina. Took a while to get everyone scheduled, get a flight, and be back under the 24 hour limit. Was a lot of stress and I can't image having this huge storm muck it up. Looking out my window it's a lot of snow already.

If you hadn't seen the boat in person I'd be really nervous. But since you saw it I'd try to get the surveyor to face time you. A survey on this boat will take a lot of hours. Maybe have him do a summary walk through FaceTime call at the end, to review any issues that were found. That way the surveyor can focus on his work - it would be really hard for him to hold a camera the whole time and be effective, and likely pretty boring for you.

Sounds like your doing everything right then. Best wishes with the purchase!

Can you fly out a day or two early, see the boat, do some sight seeing? What's up with the 24 hour limit you mentioned?

When I had Beachcomber surveyed (hull and electronics by one guy, engines and trannys by another) I had the two surveyors meet me for breakfast. I explained to them that this was my first big boat, first diesels, etc., and I wanted them to keep me from buying a bad boat. They understood and did a great job.

In NY if you travel in the US and are there under 24 hours you do not have to quarantine or do any testing, If more then 24 hours you have to quarantine 10-14 days and get tested.

Best case scenario, with the storm we're getting along with the COVID restrictions, is it possible to have the survey proceed as planned but "attend" via Zoom, Facetime etc?

For me it's not just the nice written report at the end, but also being able to ask a ton of questions.

Yep. When I flew into Islip all passengers had complete a survey and be screened by National Guard members that were deployed to help out. I think the quarantine days may be different now - they have changed a few times.

I'm sure you saw that NY area airports are shut down now. Also the MTA has halted all surface rail transit. I heard the LIE + Northern State are shut (but not 100% sure on this).

The new quarantine deal that I will be doing when I return from my Florida vacation is a covid test 3 days before departure then one the 4th day we are back. If both negative you are out!
A buddy has flown between NY & the Carolina's & does nothing. Just goes back to work the next day. My wife & kids can't do that though.
