Hi, I'm hoping to find info and availability of the ignition / cut-off switch that's inside the Gearshift / Throttle lever casing. I was told that it may be starting to go and that it's expensive to replace. I have a 1996 290 Sundancer with a single 454 / Bravo 3.

Any info on the switch availability or for that matter the complete single throttle / gear shift lever would be helpful.

Thanks.

Just a couple of quick thoughts for you. (depending on you definition of expensive) You can replace the entire throttle, I did on my old boat for around $400 in parts and a couple hours of your time. But the kill switch is just a switch with two wires, West Marine sells a add-on kill switch and lanyard for $42 You could disconnect you wires and add the new switch. You can also just unplug the wires from behind your controls and bypass the switch completely. Not all boats have them.

I believe Freedom is talking about the neutral kill switch, which is the one that will not allow you to start the boat unless it the shift lever is securely fixed in the neutral position (so you don't go shooting forward when you turn the key). The lanyard type is designed to shut the engine off if you go flying overboard when the lanyard is attached to you. Not sure where the neutral switch is located in an outdrive setup but on inboards I think it's down near the transmission.

Thank you all for your assistance it's very helpful.
