(NEW YORK) -- ABC News' George Stephanopoulos had a feisty 35 minute sit-down with Donald Trump Monday in which he dug in on the "birther" controversy, answered Club for Growth’s charge that he is a “liberal,” talked about a possible independent run and answered viewer questions.

But their interview began with his get-tough approach on gas prices:

Trump: Look at what’s going on with your gasoline prices. They’re going to go to $5, $6, $7 and we don’t have anybody in Washington that calls OPEC and says, "Fellas, it’s time. It’s over. You’re not going to do it anymore." I don’t know if you saw yesterday, Saudi Arabia came out and said very strongly there’s plenty of oil. "We’re going to cut back." You know what cutting back means? They’re going to drive up the price even further.

Stephanopoulos: So, what would you do to back up that threat?

Trump: Oh, it’s so easy George. It’s so easy. It’s all about the messenger. They wouldn’t even be there if it wasn’t for us. If it weren’t for us, they wouldn’t be there. These 12 guys sit around a table and they say, "Let’s just screw the United States." And frankly, the rest of the world.

Stephanopoulos: And so finish this sentence. "If you don’t produce more oil…"

Trump: Look. I’m going to look ‘em in the eye and say, "Fellas, you’ve had your fun. Your fun is over."

Stephanopoulos: So, you would threaten to take away that [security] protection?

Trump: Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. Let’s -- let me tell you something. Oil prices might go down. Because there’s plenty of oil, all over the world. Ships at sea. They don’t know where to dump it. I saw a report yesterday. There’s so much oil, all over the world, they don’t know where to dump it. And Saudi Arabia says, "Oh, there’s too much oil." They -- they came back yesterday. Did you see the report? They want to reduce oil production. Do you think they’re our friends? They’re not our friends.

And Trump was even more specific on what he would do with the Iraq oil fields: seize them.

Trump: George, let me explain something to you. We go into Iraq. We have spent thus far, $1.5 trillion. We could have rebuilt half of the United States. $1.5 trillion. And we’re going to then leave. So, in the old days, you know when you had a war, to the victor belong the spoils. You go in. You win the war and you take it.

Stephanopoulos: It would take hundreds of thousands of troops to secure the oil fields.

Trump: Excuse me. No, it wouldn’t at all.

Stephanopoulos: So, we steal an oil field?

Trump: Excuse me. You’re not stealing. Excuse me. You’re not stealing anything. You’re taking -- we’re reimbursing ourselves -- at least, at a minimum, and I say more. We’re taking back $1.5 trillion to reimburse ourselves.

Unfortunately, I think he is right! Regardless of his past or present, I like the OPEC approach. Couple that with suspending some of the EPA's policies and all these blends! But, I don't see it happening. BHO said on many occasions that we should be paying more for gas while he was campaigning. People heard that and voted him in, so he thinks people want the high gas prices:smt021 This is so ridiculous:huh:

I guess only Trump has the balls to say what's true.....we need to be paid for freeing/protecting these countries. If oil is what you have to pay your bills with....pay-up! The money/debt we have spent to free people is going to kill us in the long run. If I offer to protect your property from looters in a riot.....you owe me something for protecting your property. It would be my time and ammo costs to repel the looters. Those are the wars we are fighting. If we were not protecting Saudi Arabia they would be in a world of hurt. Let them hire Black Water if they don't want to pay us, Mike.

Excuse me, do you think any liberal is going to go along with this? Pay up, are you crazy:smt021....why those poor poor arab's don't have any money:wow:...come on people, they are just poor poor dumb arabs that need that strong uncle sam shoulder to carry the load.

Best regards

Obama doesn't understand the need for short and long term planning for oil (why would he, he's just a community organizer sitting in the white house). He only responds to the current high gas prices with "buy a higher mileage vehicle" and "We're investing in Solar/Wind technologies". How about cranking up some of the off-shore platforms, turning on a few more fuel processing plants. Until these can start backfilling the supply side of things, drop or eliminate the Federal Tax for a month or so. Drill, baby drill... Oh wait, where have I heard that before?

I think Trump is also hinting at one of our current Administrations issues. Obama needs to get some backbone and stop waffling on the Middle East. Hillary seems to have more backbone than he does and a better understanding in this area.

The total screwup on the gas issue is Ethanol! I've lost 2mpg on all 5 vehicles I own and run for business. Can't wait to run this crap in the boat. Less btu's means less horsepower and speed and mileage....dah! We were lucky to still get regular gas in 2010. There was nothing wrong with regular gas until some special intrest green people found a way to get rich off US govt backing at the tax payers expense. MTB in the fuel was fine but didn't make enough money so they said it could/may cause cancer....so does the sun! Ethanol is a total loser and no one will admit it especially the assholes in Washington, Mike.

Do you have any idea how many "good ole boys" in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota are in on this scam?

CV-23 you have a 1990 boat. Better not be running ethanol through that motor and fuel system. Ethanol is a drying agent and if your rubber fuel lines are old they may start to bleed through. The gaskets will also come apart in the carb and engine. Ethanol will dislodge any gunk or tarnish in the fuel system sending it awards the carb.

On some applications we have seen up to as much ad 20% power loss. And still requiring 15% more fuel consumption.

Great article until the very bottom few lines!!

On the bright side a lot less people will be able to afford to drive (ironically, most of them are Barry's supporters), so we'll all get where we are going a little faster...

Right in my Sea Ray Owners Manual it states not to use any Ethanol/alcohol added fuels in merCruiser engines due to fuel system issues. I'll keep extra fuel/water sep. filters on hand for the summer for the 270DA and the CV-23. I used plenty of gas last summer so I know I'll be using more with this Ethanol low mileage crap, Mike.
