Troll control "not available" message...why?

Got the cockpit cover installed, a 30 amp Y adapter delivered, new wireless headphones for the aft dropdown tv/dvd. The Raymarine E80, DSM300 and Si-Tex SP80 installed. Still need to install the Flushpro valves. Replaced the Ray 215 mic cable and cradle. Looking good so far except....

I didn't know much about the Smartcraft tach and speedo gauges beyond the info they were already displaying. When I tried to engage the troll control on the tachs or the speedo I received a "not available" message. Since then I've read the manual and have learned that the troll control needs to be enabled in the Calibration 2 screens. I don't know that it isn't, but because I didn't know then I didn't check. I've also learned the troll control requires the ECM 555 or PCM 555 processor which I'm fairly confident the 8.1's have.

So I'm asking...does the "not available" message mean troll control hasn't been enabled? I won't be back to the boat for another two weeks but if anyone can shed some light I'll appreciate it.

Thanks!

Troll control is a Scandinavian thing, something about Saab eradication.......

Seriously, not all SC features are available on all engine packages. For example, none of us have need for oil tank levels.

I know my 02 496 does not support troll control (although the world would be better with fewer Saabs.

Ahhh Kaz', you're right. To engage it one must be in forward gear...I don't think I was. Duh! And now I have to wait for 2 1/2 weeks yet to find out.

Henry it's funny you that you talk about trolls, when I searched different questions using troll control there were always sites returned regarding the troll topic you mentioned. I never knew such extensive interest existed. Hey I like your idea of posting your MMSI number. Nice one!

That's funny. I owned 2 Saabs long ago. An '82 900S and an '86 900 Turbo. The 900s was great and had nothing wrong with it. Sold it for a relatively high price. The 900 Turbo was a money pit right off the lot (but fun to drive). It finally put us all out of our misery by burning itself up (faulty design caused insulation to rub off where wiring bundle went through bulkhead) in '93.

I have never tried enabling my troll control. Have no clue whether I have the feature or if it is even a useful feature.

Bill although I'm not set up for fishing much on this boat, my previous boat was a 27' walkaround totally for coastal and offshore. In fact, we decided to keep it and dry store it. I had made it very nice and it 's paid for. hard to give up. I troll mostly always, and use lures versus livies or lures over ballyhoo etc. So not too messy. And I'm mostly catch and release unless a black grouper grabs a plug then yummy!

But mainly I want the troll control just to keep the engines at a fairly consistent speed or rpm. I've read different rpm limits...some being 1500 per engine, others limited at 800. I hope 1500 for the 8.1's. That's a nice speed for most anything bigger than a mackerel and not too bad when on a day cruise.
