Here are some pics of our trip last week down to Dry Tortugus. It is a great historical site.

The Island is a short 70 miles southwest of Key West. On our run down, we we less than a mile from the Atocha Wreck Mel Fisher's group found.

We learned a bunch of Civil War History and had a great boat trip.

Great pics...thanks for sharing. I haven't been back there in over 20 years...doesn't look like it's changed much. I remember how isolated I felt when I was there...like you could just imagine all of the history of the Fort happening right before your eyes!!

Cool pics. I new you would like it. Did you go straight there from Cape Coral or Key West? Good place to throw the Hook in front of the fort. Glad you had a good time.

Ahh this is one of the "When I get a bigger boat" trips I want to take. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pics Ken. That is definitely a trip that goes on the bucket list.

Looking forward to Lucaya ...only 3 weeks to go

Who is going to carry the 55 gallon drum with fuel. Since there is nothing at the Fort it would be pushing my fuel/range limit.

Would be good if it was a pontoon boat lots of deck space for barrels of fuel.

We were thinking about making that trip- but maybe running from Naples instead of KW. Any idea of how long a run that is?

Is there any "protection" there, or are the areas used for anchoring pretty exposed?

Nice pics.

That would be a long long run. From Naples, you have about a 100 miles to Key West, and another 70 miles to Dry Tortugus, that mean you would need a range of about 340 miles.

Our boat with 400 gallons cannot go that far.

There is plenty of protection and deep water on the dock side (which is kinda on the southwest side of the island).

Dock space "time" is limited due to the two Key West ferries. You can dock I believe before 10am and after 3pm. But you can always tender or swim in. There are no facilities at the island (if you are camping, you can use the pit toilets).

Can I come too? :smt101
I say yes, but I think Chuck's the lead on this one.....

So now were thinking of safety items?.....too late, let's go!

Ok....so you're in charge of extra fuel then.....

The protection is you. You're bigger than the rest of us, we'll wagonwheel it once we get there, we'll be fine.

Ken, don't worry Morph's bringing lot's of fuel sounds like.
Since you sound familiar with it, you're in charge of accomodations once we get there and limes. I'll bring a blender.
