I have a 2007 Alpha drive with smart craft. My trim adjustment is very touchy. When I press the button to trim the drive up, it takes a second for the guage to register, if I hold the button down it jumps from 0-5 in a split second. So I try to just press the trim button 2-3 times quick to get the right adjustment. It is very frustrating. Some time it takes 3 to 4 quick presses to get to a 1-2. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an adjustment? Every other boat I have owned the trim responded asap. Any help would be appreciated.

it sound like one i had once that got low on oil and then got air in the cylinders.
not sure if thats your problem but its easy and cheap place to start

Are you sure that trim is a problem, a lot of times trim sender is a problem while trim actually works OK

To put it bluntly, the Smartcraft based trim gauge (at least on my boat) is useless. :wow:

It never reflects what is actually going on and it also has the same "delay" that you speak of. Somehow or other it also incorporates the angle of the boat rather than just the trim gauge. As a result, I have to trim my outdrive by "feel". It's the one thing I really wish Sea Ray (or Mercruiser) would change.

The trim works fine. It can be easily trimed to high rather quickly. As you wait for the angle to register on the smart craft you are too high, then you bump it down and its too low. It is real touchy. It could be a sender problem.

I agree Dave I go by feel and RPM's as well. It is just so touchy it is easy to trim the drive up too high then I am having too trim down then its too low. It can be tough to get it in the right spot.

Same here, as far as disregarding the smart craft reading and going by feel.. After a couple of years I've gotten to pretty much know how many lil taps to hit it to get it where I want depending on the speed.

I have the same sensitivity or time delay for response (glass half full/half empty)... even on my normal dash gauge vice the digital Smartcraft display. I go by feel too. I never considered anything might be wrong. Let us know if you get the delaer to fix it or what.

The other thing is it all depends on RPM's too. Going at idle as I near the lift and start running the trim up, it's a nice, even progression... @ 3500..then it's touchy.
