Last weekend my trim-tilt motor appeared to be failing; it would raise the drive only about 25% of the way, and then the motor would stop (it would return to the down position OK). I thought the cylinders just had air in them, so I read up on how to bleed them. However, I filled the cells of the battery (clearly low) first this weekend, and then ran the boat around for 45 minutes. First, the TT system worked fine with the motor running. Second, afterward the battery had a higher voltage (I know, I didn't wait very long) and the TT system worked fine with the motor off. But -- if the battery was low enough for the TT motor to fail, should the engine not also have failed to start? Or is more power required for trim-tilt than for starting?
