I noticed today a sheen on the water behind the boat and checked the trim tab fluid level. Well my tabs are leaking. My question is how many time can these be rebuilt? From my understanding mine were rebuilt sometime before I bought the boat.

I don't see why they can't be rebuilt again. I haven't rebuilt one but they seem to be pretty straight forward.

I emailed Bennett to try to get the kits. Looks to be just a couple of O rings that can go bad.

Very easy to do! Just watch the spring, it can, and WILL end up across the yard.

Tom, how many time can they be rebuilt before a change is in order?

In theory since there are just two O-rings in the actuator there is no limit, particularly the upper hinge O-ring. The upper hinge O-ring is static and compressed between the cylinder body and the upper hinge. The piston O-ring seals the piston shaft and slides up and down inside the cylinder body as the Tabs move. If the inside of the cylinder body somehow became damaged, then replacing it would not work. That is very rare and would show up right away as a leak.

Is the boat kept in the water?

If the leak is at the upper hinge area you may be able to simply tighten the cylinder body to stop the leak. If you replace the piston O-ring then it is a good idea to put the Tabs down and leave them there for a few hours to see if it holds pressure.

Lastly some of the actuators we supply SeaRay are not our standard units, but custom made for them. In order to insure you get the correct one we would need the Trim Tab kit number SeaRay installed on that boat. You would need to contact SeaRay to find this info (they don't tell us what kits they buy are used on what particular model boat).

She stays in the water, but is coming out soon for zinc and a cleaning. I may have the kit # and will post here shortly. The system has been leaking but very small amounts. As of this past weekend I see it's gotten much worse. #141820 is what the book states

That is not a number that refers to a whole kit that we would sell SeaRay. The best bet is to contact SeaRay and ask them for the Trim Tab Kit Number for that Make Model and Year.
