My boat doesn't have trim tab indicators and I keep it in the water. When I'm done with a trip, I like to make sure they are all the way back in "bow up". With my drive (trim indicator not working there), I can hear when it reaches bottom because the noise changes, and I can hear it stop when its all the way up. I can hear a quiet whine when press the tab switches (engine off, radio off), but the sound doesn't ever seem to change. Anyone have a trick to figure that out. Tabs are original with the boat (1997 250DA).

If you can't make out the difference, just start with them all the way down - have someone watch them and tell you when they stop moving. Now go the other way, counting one-one-thousand, etc. until the person tells you they are all the way up. That's the most (amount of seconds) you'll ever have to wait since that's from full deployed to full retracted..

A better solution may be Bennett's Automatic Tab Retractor. It wires into the existing trim tab switch plus a switched 12V, a continuously hot 12V, and a ground connection. When the switched 12V lead is turned off, the ATR automatically returns you tabs to the full up position. Like all of Bennett's stuff, it is well designed and bullet-proof. the ATR is one of the best additions I have made to our boat......and it is cheap too @ about $50.

Good call, Frank. As a second opinion, the ATR is absolutely a good item. I wouldn't say that I sell a "ton" of them, but I have heard no complaints from the people that have bought them.
